Just heard on the BBC radio The FIA have backed down, and now will defer the stupid system till next year!! Will post links as and when..
Hell has frozen over! http://fia.com/en-GB/mediacentre/pressreleases/f1releases/2009/Pages/f1_points.aspx On 17 March, the FIA World Motor Sport Council unanimously rejected FOTAs proposed amendment to the points system for the Formula One Drivers Championship. The winner takes all proposal made by the commercial rights holder (who had been told that the teams were in favour) was then approved. If, for any reason, the Formula One teams do not now agree with the new system, its implementation will be deferred until 2010.
I'm not sure but I hope so, but this will seem like a major back down, and I think there is a power struggle going on underneath all this...FOTA v FIA
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/7955790.stm I like that headline by the BBC!! hit the road Max....YOU COCKED UP ...Oh that would have been mine... FIA U turn.... http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12433_5077806,00.html
This is ridiculous, just shows how incompetent and stupid the FIA is. Next thing we'll see is them changing the points system during the races to even out the championship
From the BBC Article: That seems certain to happen, meaning the old system, in which the driver with most points wins, will be used.
Sure Bernie will try to muck it up again.....his divorce is costing us common sense. Next who knows what he will do Image Unavailable, Please Login
It has to be the system in use last year, any change from that must now be too late to be acceptable.
"The winner takes all proposal made by the commercial rights holder (who had been told that the teams were in favour) was then approved. "If, for any reason, the Formula One teams do not now agree with the new system, its implementation will be deferred until 2010." The above is from the ITV article... Since when did anyone hear that the teams were in favour of this scheme, further the teams put forward a point system which on the face of it seemed a good compromise, which was then promptly rejected by Max, so just what goes on in the heads of these people, It's heartening to know that the FOTA have a major victory, and played Max at his own game..
Sounds like it'll be the old 10,8,6, etc points system. From reading the FOTA quote, they can make late changes, but it needs unanimous agreement from all the teams. http://www.planetf1.com/story/0,18954,3213_5077828,00.html
Autosport.com is reporting the same but not what points system they'll go with. As said we've got to assume it's the old system. http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/73810
I love this part: A FIA spokesman told BBC Sport: "The new scoring system has been deferred until 2010, but I'm sure this will be reviewed throughout the course of the season AS ANY NEW RULE CHANGES HAVE TO HAVE TEAMS APPROVAL BEFORE WE PROCEED." Since when does Max give a damn if the teams (or anyone else for that matter) approve of something before he does it? There has to be some other reason for him backing down. Maybe a new Nazi hooker video?
I love it !! swivel Max, thinking about it I actually think the FIA system would have favoured the likes of Hamilton, Fred & Kimi...
It certainly would have. And as Webber pointed out someone like Kubica who was in the title hunt until the last race would have been nowhere near it with "only" one win.
