I took my wife for a little ride in the Dino. Despite my most pleasant and upbeat predrive briefing she... ... ... ... Broke Dave's Dino Commandment #6: "Thy shalt not touch the vent window hardware." So now I have a loose swivel lock. The problem is that the glass beneath it is not smooth, there is an irregular defect in the glass. I normally would use epoxy but epoxy works best when there is no gap between the pieces. What would you use to even out the glass and stick the hardware back on?
DD. The glass was uneven when I attached the lever in the first place. Use a LITTLE clear epoxy. REALLY A LITTLE. It'll fill the glass and re-attach the vent window latch. Which you're never SUPPOSED TO USE. Next time we speak, I'm gonna have to have a chat with the little woman. That's Dino abuse!!! Just be very careful with the application, as any extra will dribble out and make an awful mess. also, do a test with the epoxy to make sure it really cures clear before you use it. DM
Oh, and check the underside of the lever, I believe some of the glass is still attached. Also take care to position it carefully when re-attaching. Good luck, DM
I have to drive with my vent windows wide open just to get some cooler air around my vital parts, have been thinking of attaching a wire in case it drops off and I can retrieve it,the window latch that is.(Just looked up Dino Parts vent window $150)
Funny you say that. My driver window opens and I have thought the same thing but with a black sewing thread rather than a wite.
On my second Dino, since I originally purchased it, the passenger vent window lever has occasionally come off. Since I don't normally open that window, it falls harmlessly onto the floor. Over the winter, the driver's vent lever came off, and fell onto the floor. Both will need to be re-attached this spring. It's a Dino ritual, I guess. Still, it's better than the exhaust system falling off! Fred
This happens like a regulary date and in the past I tried to re-glue it with special 2 components glass/metall glue used in the automotive industry for inner back mirrors fittet on the front screens but that helps not always especially if the glass surface ist demaged. After all I bought the vent window with a hole were the catch is fixed with a bolt like the Daytona has it from the beginning on.
My vent window (or quarter light as we say in england) catches have sat in the glovebox for the last 2 yrs. I have stuck them back on with various glues but no joy they just fall off. Is it easy to drill the glass and bolt it through? Someone mentioned an after mkt mod but haven't seen it advertised. I thought the Daytona windows had the same problem but are they different?
John, Have you tried the Loctite glass glue which comes with a small peice of perforated gauze which you cut to size and then goes between the object you are fixing and the glass? I fitted my drivers side on with this and it seems fine.
It is NOT easy to drill a hole into the glass, not to say impossible. The glass is special threated so it will be break if you try it. The only way is to buy them with already holes in, they cost the same price at the mentioned link. Daytonas have this better solution from factory on.
Thanks Graham. No I haven't but will get some from Halfords and give this a go first - as new quaterlights Daytona sound expensive!
