Emilio speak to your friends at Ansa about straight-pipe headers and Megaphone exhausts and you'll get immediate interest from the USA...

Indeed Gary Hall made a nice run of re-manufactured items which withstood the heat a bit better than the original stickers (which lasted but a weekend or two!).

On the original units, the adhesive was quite good though - you can see its mark 24 years later!

However Emilio is also right, if you spy the undersides of the unit, you'll see that Ansa have tack-welded a metal badge with the simple inscription "ANSA" on it.

Compare the ID plate of 52715 with that of 56761... a little different Ill say.

As an aside, Im noticing that the earlier GTOs with a "52xxx" chassis number have some small differences...

Thanks for posting that Emilio. Cant argue with the thinking behind a GTO - F40 collection in the family!

    ...at the Nürburgring.
The car was owned from new by Hartmut Ibing, who also owns a 250 GTO since 1976, from Germany.

The car was later stolen in Monaco but surfaced again in LA, USA. Here it was impounded by the US-customs and given back to its owner in Germany.

Ibing sold the car about 10 (?) years ago. Don`t know the VIN but I am sure its here somewhere on this thread.

    Ciao!
    Walter

    Thanks Walter,

Do you know roughly when the car was stolen and after how long it re-surfaced?

    Paul,
not sure about this. As far as I recall it must have been in the early 90ies. It was about 2-3 months until Ibing got his car back. He let Ferrari S.p.A. in Maranello check it over when back in EU.
I drove this 288 2 times and saw it always parked next to his 250 GTO, 250 LM, 250 Cal.-Spider, 250 MM and 275 GTB4 Alloy!

    Ciao!
    Walter

you're welcome. Sadly I've only seen a 288 GTO once in the flesh even if there's actually a guy owning 2 of them in my neighborhood.

Very interesting. One USA poster here also has 2, as does a UK owner.

Maybe you can convince him to show you one.

That's really interesting. The collector I am talking about is located in the North of Munich. I saw parts of his local collection several times, there should be 30+ Ferrari's only. Thatfore i have to admit that I was mainly looking elsewhere.
