I was talking to a Ferrari mechanic and he was talking about the work he was doing on a 400 for the Classique (sp?) certificate. It made no sense. Until I realized he was talking about the 400 SA, not the 400i. (No offence to the 400i, I love it.) D'oh!

When I talk about the 288 GTO, I call it a 288, but I think GTO is actually the correct name, but If I was to say GTO, everyone would think 250.

So what Ferrari's have a similar name?

    Testarossa.
    Dino?
    California.
    400.
    Barchetta?
    GTO.

    What else?

Mondial? I know of the 2+2 of the 80's. What is the other one?

There are several variants of the 2+2 line of Mondials from the '80s and '90s. But back in the '50s, there were the Series I and Series II 500 Mondials and the 750 Mondial.

To the original poster, yes, 'GTO' is the correct nomenclature for the 288.

Also, I do believe Ferrari made a 612 Can Am car. There's also the 412 P - not to be confused with the 412 2+2. And let's not forget the 512 S and the 512 M - not to be confused with the 512 TR and the F512 M. Or the 330 P4 and the 330 GTC/330 GT 2+2/330 GTS/330 America...

    Don't forget the "GT4": 308/208 GT4 and the 365 GT4, which is not to be confused with the 365 GTC4 or 365BB

Anytime you name your cars with alphanumeric IDs for displacement (either total or per cylinder, or in F-car case -- both) and body configuration, you're in for a treat.

When calling a 365 GTC4 "C4", some people think of a Porsche first.

They don't have to worry about running out of old names to be reused for awhile: Europa, Monza, Ellena,America, Mexico, Export, Tour de France, Lusso, Boano, Superfast, and my favorite, Breadvan.
