The interior and dashboard are out of my October 72 246GT. (Serial #04788 with 25,010 original miles) Last night I just noticed there are 2 pieces of carpeting glued on the inner cowl, behind and on top of the plastic glove box, in light Grey with light Grey piping. Based on the mish-mash of black carpeting pieces that came out of the cockpit, I had always assumed it originally came with black carpeting. This new discovery has me second guessing OEM carpet color now. Is there any way to tell for sure what the carpet color was in my car when new? Did Dino's have a light Grey colored carpeting above the glove box to make it easier to see things inside? (With other carpet colors possible in addition to this?) I have the same question about my seat inserts. I have seen pictures of many different styles of seat inserts; just horizontal strips, 1 vertical strip in the middle of horizontal strips, several different kinds of vent holes, several different kinds of hole patterns, velour, and of course the "chairs" style insert with many different variations of colors, patterns and holes, etc.... My seats are Black OEM leather, but the inserts have been replaced with very well done Black velour faces I know are not correct. Is there any way to tell for sure what my seat inserts were when the car was new? If not, what were the correct available options and configurations for a late 72 early 73?
jon, i have your car being delivered on5/14/73 in "ferrari light red" exterior with full black interior just horizontal strips - typically the leather seats with no straps 1 vertical strip in the middle of horizontal strips - typically the later vinyl seats several different kinds of vent holes - typaically the early vinyl seats several different kinds of hole patterns, velour - hole patterns based on year and velour was an "option" seating surface and of course the "chairs" style insert with many different variations of colors, patterns and holes, etc.... - most of these have been "re-done" by people over the years. the seats with the straps (ie-daytona) seats are pretty much the same if orignial i just checked the two 74's i have in my garage right now and the both have carpet matched to their interior carpet selection (tan and black respectively)
Jon, my two Dinos, 04808 (ten cars after yours in Oct. '72!) and 03964 have the original carpet color in the glove compartment, tan and biscuit, respectively). Fred
where the devil is this info coming from?! can anyone tell me what color my dino originally came in? it's #01704
Not trying to take advantage, but I have zero clues on my #1104. I'd be grateful for anything you might know. Regards, Alberto
Based on a "carpet color above the glove box" sampling of only 4 Dinos, I can project my car originally came with Grey carpeting with Grey piping. (gag!) Last winter I replaced the light grey carpeting in my Porsche 911 with black because I couldn't stand the dirt any more. That color is almost impossible to keep clean. I will seriously consider black in the dino this time around. tx246 and 2GT, thanks for checking and reporting back. I do appreciate the information. Any other posters would be welcome to increase the sampling size!!! tx246, What kind of documentation are you using that says "full black interior"? My car has OEM black leather seats and lblack eather door panels. All else is black grained vinyl trim. The carpeting I found has to be the original color. No one else has been this deep into the car before. Perhaps your documentation does not refer to carpet color?? 2GT: Could you post a few pics of the interior on 04808 for me please? I am most interested in the seats and carpeting if original. Philt68: Contrats on the new ride, and welcome to the dino world. (secret handshake :>)
Jon, I don't have any interior pics of 04808, but my interior is tan (don't recall the leather number offhand, but I believe that it ends in "18"--it has an antiqued look (pigskin, with a unique grain-it even has scars where the oinker got too close to the barbed wire, I think!). The carpets are a gold/brown tone. If you do a search and look at my first post from last August, you will find some photos in that thread of 04808 and 03964 that the late John Corbani posted for me. In at least one frontal shot, you can see the headrests of 04808. I hope that will be of some assistance to you. Fred
the seats and door panels being leather and the firewall and other trim being in vinyl is a "normal" configuration. as for documentation....... i am going off of the delivery information and warranty information card. it doesn't specifiy a different color carpet, but anything is possible
tx246, What is the source of your delivery information please? I don't see this info in the Dino registry. Am I correct in assuming you have the original paperwork for my car #04788 as your source? (warranty information card, pouch, manuals, etc.) thank you in advance, Jon
the info isn't from the dino registry, although i have provided a good amount of info to the registry over the years. i do not have the "original paperwork" for your car, nor do i have the manual set. what i do have is a good amount of junk in my dino collection and this includes the information on the delivery of your car
tx246, I would love to see your Dino memorabila collection some time. It sounds like a great source of information. thanks, Jon
