Was on a family vacation in Utah to ski. My left knee is no fan of skiing, so I ventured to Steve Harris Harris Imports - fabulous showroom, being renovated, great inventory. http://www.ferrarisales.com/.

Visited with Michael Call for at least an hour, even as an admitted "non propsect". Almost tripped over a 512TR in black/black that I'd noticed on their website (consignment car) , but it was in the 'sold' garage as someone else had spotted it and acted already. Oh well.

Next day, told them if that deal fell through to let me know. "Not likely" came the response, "the owner said the deal was done." A few hours later, a surprise...

The deal had caved in. I went to re-look at the car through a buyer's eyes. Full PPI was done previously, engine out service had 218 miles on it (Jan 08) car had a 'cost no object' owner - releathered dash, new Pirelli Rossos, new this and that everywhere it could be needed. They'd buffed the black paint to near perfection. Fired it up, the new Tubi exhaust made it sound better than expected, clutch (new) uptake was excellent, all worked well and smoothly. A well-oiled 30,760 miles, drove like new.

I am now the owner. A great memory of my trip to Utah for all concerned.

Can't get photos 'til the car gets back home to me, but it's a beauty. (Harris' photos here http://www.ferrarisales.com/view/car/37/ ) Strangely "exotic" in the old-school definition, very few concessions to the everyday-ness of the modern supercar.

Two questions - how can I find how many black/black 94 512TRs were made? And with my VIN 98645, how close to the end of the 512TR run? Thanks in advance.

A Hudson- Beautiful car and a good price too. 512 TR is one of my favorites. According to Cavallino, the last 512 TR built was 99743. No clue on how many were black and black. 2261 built beginning with 89100. Statistically, definitely not exactly, they were another 222 built after yours.

Congratulations on your new 512TR. Seems like you couldn't have acquired it at a better time. Buying your car on vacation is well... ideal. :) Enjoy it!!!

Well darn! Guess the State of California will be repainting all cars in 'heather fawn moss whitish inoffensive mushroom' to make sure no one burns an unnecessary hydrocarbon. Maybe it'll make the black cars more rare!

That's a lovely looking car in black, is it a Euro model or did'nt 512TR's have the same big black plastic thing on the back bumper as Testarossas do?

    Looks great!!

The TR is cool in person, it's just monster wider from the back.

One thing that always gets me though, is that even in 1994, how they could still make the dash cluster look like it's from a 1984 Fiero.

Thanks Tazandjan for the figures. A helpful start. And Phdev, I agree, the vacation became even more memorable! I HOPE the timing was good, but we never know!

Thanks Barabus. It's a US car. Over 100 changes made the '512TR' from the Testarossa. Or so they say. Shamille has actually counted them.

    Thanks!

And I thought you loved Shamille when the TR was not around. I must've had that wrong. Thanks NEWMAN!

    Agreed there. That got me.

Thanks, it'll always remind me of visiting your state.

The thing about this car is I can hear all 12 of them very nicely. I never meant to get another black F car, but they will look good together!

You mean you want a different angle of the Boxer? You can't get enough can you!?!

Yes, I actually did think about an avatar change, but I'm not ready to go full "Vice" yet.

I agree on the dark colors - personal call. Will do on the write up.

Thanks Geno! Also, "Once you go black, you can't keep a wax job intact!" Right now, it's clean and mean though.

Thanks! Hoping someone can tell me any more production figures on the 94s.
Just darn good I guess! Actually, once in the car, seeing how it all relates, the 'Fiero' look is far more difficult to compare. I've actually owned two 88 Fiero 5 speeds (the only year/trans to own if you count such things) and the interior was by far the biggest let down on the car. The TR has a look and finish all its own, quite distinctive to me.

Thanks for the high-fives all. Will post more later.

Actually you can go heather fawn moss metallic.

Nice car. I was looking at that one, as I like TRs in black.

I had read somewhere that they made 228 for 1994.

Congratulations Adams, I have only just spotted this now, a black BB and a black 512TR, perfect stable you have now, in the best colour for these cars. Weird as I was only enquiring about a 93 512TR a few weeks ago. I would be very interested in hearing your comparison to the Boxer.

You don't think the metallic will ruin the world? I bet there's an asterisk in the bill for that. Were you shopping THIS car? Hope I didn't yank it from under you; the only mentioned the errant ebayer.

Thanks Jack! I hope to get the factory backing on that.

Stevie! Great new avatar by the way - keep the faith! Thanks for the support on another car that'll take 4 hours just to get the dust off, but they do look darn good clean.

Hey, you get a 512TR and we'll have THREE of the same cars... CLEARLY superior taste in cars you have!

Well, last night got a call from one of the most polite truckers I've ever encountered, "Your car's here... but I'm lost" Leon laughed. After a little human GPSing, we got Leon pointed right. He opened the tailgate, lowered the car, very carefully placed the ramps, adjusting for minimal TR clearance.

I got in the enclosed trailer, and the TR doors weren't ABOUT to open, so I slithered through the window. Fired it up, first twist, let it idle for 5, backed her down, and <reluctantly> put the car away in the storage room for the night. Today, couldn't resist and snagged it for a brief drive home. It's dusty as heck, but it's mine.

The 512TR sounds absolutely wicked. I hated the TUBI on the 328, but on this car - OH MY GOSH. Rippingly outrageous. The car drives mighty nicely too, windows work, ac blows cold, shifts with less warm up, brakes will snap your neck forward. I hate the motorized mouse belts more than words can describe, but vow to overlook that in pursuit of other charms... which the car has in spades. Here it is...
