I don't know much about the early Dino's but were the gaps in the hood and (maybe ) the trunk painted body color? Was brown an attractive and sought after color in that era? The dash certainly looks to be a faded original that is for sure? The brake booster, clutch & brake reservoirs don't have the plastic bulkhead surround but maybe that was not done with the early cars either...looks clean. How do these early cars differ from the later ones in these regards? Especially such an original one as this...one could learn a few things here!

I bought the Mega donation charity package last year at the PIR Historic races and one part of the package was a quad demo ride around PIR with a Professional driver. We entered the car and the Driver introduced himself as "Hi, I'm Dominic ..." he moved the car forward through the entranceway at a 60 degree slide but still continuing the introduction in a calm voice said "...and I'll be your driver today". We entered another slide in the opposite direction under full control and I immediately said "Dominic Dobson!?! Oh my I recall you from the Porsche 962 days" He responded in a puzzled tone "Yes" and we then enetered the track ...
    What excellent control!

    History:

A rare and very special "time capsule" Dino; this car has only 8,715 ORIGINAL MILES!

The speedometer looks off center to me compared to the rest of the guages. Why does the panel have USA guages in a Euro car?

I was wondering that myself. Might that also cast some doubt on the low mileage reading? Fred

I used to have 00908. It was red/black and in pretty similar condition and mileage, imported by Ron Tomkin in 1970.

Mine had euro gauges and I didn't have spinners for the wheel hubs (it came with a wrench and lead hammer). These photos make me a bit homesick. Very complete car to do a resto on. The price seems fair to me. I sold mine 15 years ago for $50K. It might be different know but it was too much hassle to deal with California smog every year. I was always fighting with the DMV.

Not crazy about the color though.

Because there were only euro LHD Dinos in 1970 available for import to Canada, I would guess that the dealer or customer could order theirs with a MPH speedo because at that time, Canada was still using standard measurement (I'm a Canadian but moved to the US in '95).

Having seen this car a few years back, it really is a time capsule example.

    From Denny Schue's Dino Register
    S/N 02866 1st known USA version-titled as a 1972 model.

Would have to wonder if USA guages were available when 01100 was being built in 1970.

Were the original wheel spinner nuts for L Dino's straight ear or curved?

Interesting here, that a late L-serie Dino already had fitted a M-serie back-mirror.
So the change was already in the L-serie....

    ;-)

Wow, it didn't last long as suspected. I hope it found a good home!

A once in a lifetime kind of car.

Dino rear view mirrors seem pretty inconsistent. I know 00870 is a local one owner Dino with the same mirror as 1100 featuring he black crinkle finish back. I have seen pictures of the 206GT that appear to have a black backed mirror but it's hard to tell if it's just the glass distorting the image. I have seen lots of 206GT and early 246 GT "L" cars with the chrome backed rear view mirror (pictured which is what I have on my car.

    1) There were other countries in the world getting Dinos in 1970 with MPH speedos. Just 17 cars down the production line, the first RHD Dino was being built.
    2) Some of the early "L" series cars received the straight knock offs and wood steering wheels. I've got the 66th "L" series Dino and sadly, they had run out of both of these 206GT items by the time they got to my car!

    Cheers,

    Keith

Keith, the question here is why should it have had an MPH speedo originallly?!
The car was delivered to Canada and out of my head Canada should have a KM speedo.
    Or am I wrong?
Maybe speedo was changed when the was sold to the US.

Canada did not make the switch from Imperial to Metric until 1971 and it took some years for manufacturers and the government to comply. In fact, both Imperial and Metric are legal in Canada and some goods still use standard almost exclusively (like ovens - cooking temps are in Fahrenheit, not Celcius).

    Cheers,

    Keith
