Kimi is the best? Masa is the best? Hamilton is the best? Schumi is the best? Senna is the best? How much is it about the car and how much about the driver? If Schumi never landed @ Ferrari would we be considered great. Watching GP last night I was thinking hmmm.... More the car then not.

Would have to agree to a point. Some are definately talented, but a good example is Hamilton ATM. Last year he was unbeatable. Obviously the car did have something to do with it. Not taking away his wins, he drove well. I reckon at each race they should draw out of a hat which car they are driving or split it evenly over the season. That would eliminate any unfairness.

Each driver has his car tailored to his style, that's why when no name number 2 drivers carash their car in practice and jump in the spare car you'll hear the announcer relay messages from the cockpit like "the setup is rough" or "unbalanced", because the spare was set up for the number one driver on the team.

Schumacher started his career in a crap car and won 2 championships, he went to Ferrari when they had a crap car, made it good and won 5 championships... could have been a few more if he didn't get his points taken away for a season, break his leg, have crap tires from Bridgestone for a whole year etc... Senna would have won more championships too if he remained alive.

Great drivers can win championships in decent cars.
Fair drivers can win races in great cars
Good drivers can win championships in great cars
The best drivers who ever lived can win championships with poor cars in the right circumstances.

Why do you insist on posting links and news that cost me money? I've been up all night working while following the practice/ qualifying/ posts etc. and now more "rent taking" news from you. You're like an ex-wife, the more I see you, the more money I lose!

Spares cars are no longer allowed.

They are allowed to bring along a naked chassis in the event someone gets Coultharded.

How come half of the cars have a declared weight? The officials "had" to post the results of the weight ins before actually weighing the cars?

Nakajima looks like he has about enough fuel to start the car and make it to the first turn.

Yes, I know I was just illustrating why two drivers simply can't switch cars every now and then to keep everything "fair".

I think "in case some one get "Ide'd"" would be more fitting.

Agreed, however it is something to see these results and it just got me thinking ........ 95% car ...... 5% driver? At first glance the numbers seem a bit harsh, however 5% in GP is a huge number.

LOL! I missed that. He can't go below 605kg at any time during the race, so they have to bring him in before he does 2.7 laps. :D

lol. I didn't realise they posted weights. I always thought it was kept a secret. There is a very big spread there. The Renault is very heavy. Strategy is going to be interesting.

Watching coverage today, Brunble and Co are betting on 5 front wings being broken by turn 1. The safety car could play a bit with this GP.

Michael Schumacher is considered the best contemporary F1 racer to have ever driven. The car certainly helped his career, but he got the glory.

Very good post, sums up my thoughts very well. What we are seeing is a car thats better than the others...not that Rubens has suddenly become a fantastic driver of that Jenson has managed some miracle over the winter period.

I really am so happy for McLaren though, one can just about imagine Ron Dennis back in Woking frothing at the mouth in anger...
