after the front page of the Sunday Mail.........any publicity of driving will be looked with scourn by the police dept. I know that police read forums and advertising a drive is teasing the animals.................the police are taking this latest accident/ fatality very seriously.

as I and a very many people have been saying for years, there is no off street racing venue in south australia for the young and old to go to get the racing out of their 'system' I for one happen to love fast cars and drag racing, I was a frequent racer at the legal off street drags, since there has been no drag strip for some 4 years now where else do these young and old racers go? my suggestion is simple, reopen AIR and they will come, people will go there to race, sure there will be the 'rebels' who choose to race on the street but for the most the responsible ones will race at a sanctioned raceway

Get a CAMS license, go to Mallala, and away you go. There's open practise days there 2 or 3 times/month. Also drifting days for those that way inclined. The Sporting Car Club even runs burn out days at Colingrove. Yes it's expensive. Stiff ****. If you don't pay you don't play. Same as everything else in life.

Those 'rebels' you're talking about are killing themselves and others.

errr try Mallala, or get a go kart and head to the best track in Aust at Monarto.

AIR is not going to be opened......it needs resurfacing. The idiot who was killed is just that, and I cannot believe the accolades about the killed driver about how smart he was.......if he was so smart why is he so dead

You can open as many racetracks as you like and there will still be young blokes with a couple of drinks under their belts taking on one another on the street.

Anyway, BAturb, did you get out this morning and how was it? Great weather, that's for sure. The way I read your post you were only planning to cruise, not race.

Like the 2 guys killed at Bridgewater last week. Running from the police with a boot load of stolen gear. And their families said in yesterday's paper not to judge them because the both had police records. WTF?

Rather a thief get away than he head-on my family running from young coppers with their adrenaline up.
Police need to play smarter than hi-speed chases.

Had an off duty cop chase a guy he saw steeling his wife's car nearly take me out one night. The guy he was chasing fish tailed onto the main drag, lost it and flew head on into two cars coming the other way.
Am an ex-ambo so as first on scene I tried to save lives and legs by myself for 20 mins untill help arrived.
One of the two most traumatic on road happenings I've been involved in.
Sorta set my opinion on chases.

I did cruise this morning, a beautiful morning for a drive through the hills, even stopped at Oakbank for the missus to get a bag of fresh apples, then stopped for a bit of brunch, just love days like this.

on another note I enjoy driving my ferrari through the hills and an occasional track day but originally my fast car days started with drag racing, when adelaide had a drag strip I was always out there with my 'hot' cars, in recent years i bought a new car, it happened to be a new ford turbo, with this and that done to it I ended up having a 550hp street car that runs 11sec down the 1/4 mile at over 120mph, I still own and drive it on a daily basis to and from work, I drive it responsibly and have had no speeding fines in this car since owning it.
I do believe there is not enough education for young people regarding their driving habbits and the dangers of high powered cars, I would not let my son drive my car if he had only got his license, I do think NSW have a good idea and ban L and p plate drivers from certain cars, it gives them valuable driving experience, but that is only a short term fix, what happens after they get a full licence, the door is open to own and drive anything they can get, giving an outlet for people to drag race will at least give them an opportunity to get off the streets and race safely, at the moment people young or old, responsible or not, do not have this

at least giving people the option to race at a track is better than what adelaide has at the monent
