This is a Picture of # 07368 an European 246 GTS bought from current owners from his neighbour in 1976. Obvoiusly the steering wheel version was handled different in UK/US/EU. I agree that the older version with holes have the uncovered lower spoke. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Found this advertising about after market sales of the prototypo. Funny that this is again with uncovered lower spoke.. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Volkmar, i´m not sure about that. Both steering wheels with the "DINO" on the lower spoke (I posted pictures earlier) have uncovered lower spokes and I believe I have seen a original Ferrari factory press release photo from 71 which shows this for the Dino 246. Momo "prototypo" is just the version of the steering wheel, even if it is only written on later produced steering wheels. I will see if i can find the photo. Best regards Nicolai
What about this wheel? http://cgi.ebay.com/MOMO-STEERING-WHEEL-SUIT-FERRARI-DINO-ALFA-GTV-OR-FIAT_W0QQitemZ270362407847QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAU_Car_Parts_Accessories?hash=item270362407847&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2%7C65%3A10%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318
Good questions?! The seller thinks it came from a Ferrari Dino.... The number makes sence. But we also found two steering wheels with holes on european E-serie cars without a number, and we think they are original. With steering wheels and Ferrari Dinos, everything seems to be possible.... regards Matthias
Some more fun Just came back from Italy tripp around Maranello. Pictures show what I could get. Picture one and two show newer original production from MOMO. Both called "prototypo" one with lether on lower spoke, one without. Third picture said the steering whell was in a Porsche 911 Carrera 2.7 from 73. Annother "prototipo" but spokes in black... Matthias: I have a feeling that the Momo wheel on the "L" series Dino might be a smaller diameter than the one on the Daytona. I have driven a Daytona before and it seemed bigger but it was a real Daytona spider and I was too excited/scared to blink let alone consider the steering wheel diameter in greater detail. Cheers...Keith
Keith: I don`t know enough about Daytona`s to answer the question, but as Volkmar pointed out, it should be the same size. I do own an original Momo wooden steering wheel from my 206GT, not a reproduction. If you are interested I can put up pictures. regards Matthias

When I race with my 246 I use a much smaller Prototypo for better steering performance. The diameter is only around 30 cm. It is not flat, the lower spoke is notz covered with leather, it is black AND it has the "M 20340" on the back Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
This might interest some of you. When less than two months old my Dino (02732) was fitted with this steering wheel, made here in the UK by Intertech, run by a man named Hal Danby. They specialised in making customised race car steering wheels during the Sixties and early Seventies. The first owner of the car was exceptionally long in the leg. It is slightly wider and more dished than the standard wheel. The Classiche Department have 'Certified' the car with this steering wheel, as I was able to prove how long it had been on the car. Although they do note it as 'Non original steering wheel, period adaptation.' The leather has faded badly. Kind regards Mark Shannon www.markshannon.net Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Dear Graham They were badly worn in places, dirty, smelly and part replaced with very incorrect type. Not saveable. So post 'Certification' Inspection I took them out and have not got round to having new ones yet. Mark
Your wheel looks indentical to mine (early 246 L-series), though previous searches have not discovered any "MO" or "MOMO" markings. I'll check again when I get the car back from "the shop".
I belive the "MO" is a mis-strike in stamping the word "MOMO". Is this correct, or did they come both ways?
always MOMO ! on my wooden steering the pictures shows only MO, but only because the second MO was weak stamped and the picture is not perfect ! Italian quality ;-) regards Matthias
OMG! Not eben called "Momo" from the italian seller: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ferrari-Dino-246-Later-Model-Steering-Wheel_W0QQitemZ220445868344QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories?hash=item3353990138&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245&_trkparms=65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C72%3A317
That guy has quite a "history". Selling a repro steering wheel for $500.00+ is "par for the course", I think. It looks very similar (if not identical) to the one that DinoParts sells for 280 Euros: http://www.dinoparts.de/content.php?sID=2261945fe228d90ba28174aa9c18eb14&tpl=search&mode=details&mID=0&fID=2&kID=261&pID=565&cur=EUR&search_exp=steering+wheel&page=1
"206 GT: Momo, wooden steering wheel 246 GT L-serie: Momo wooden steering wheel (first 20 to 40 Dinos), Momo Daytona leather steering wheel 246 GT/GTS M- and E-serie: MOMO with holes and Momo without holes from some point of production in Q4 1973" Matthias, someone told me that the Daytona wheel for the "L" series is a larger diameter than the Dino. Any comments on that? Regards, Alberto
