Need some help from the smart ones - Finally got the car back for the paint shop last week. It was a bare metal respray. I installed all the glass. However, I decided to have a glass installer do the windshield. I ordered the windshield and windshield trim from Ferr Parts, formally Ferrari Parts Exchange and received both without incident. The glass guy showed up this am, unpacked the windshield, test fitted it and said it was the wrong glass. Additionally, the metal trim (both pieces) are too long, if I cut them, they would fit perfectly. So - here are my questions. 1) I did a test fit of the windshield myself this evening and it looks fine to me, the glass sits right next to the left and right trim clips - is this normal? 2) As mentioned above, the metal windshield trim pieces need to be trimmed in order to fit, both of them are too long. Is this normal? I'd hate to screw them up as they were $1000. 3) Here is the info printed on the glass, for those of you who've had the windshield replaced with Sekurit - Saint Gobain glass, does this part number look correct? Sekurit Saint Gobain M60 AS-1 DOT 60 E17 43R-00186 Thanks, -gt4fore
I'm not sure about the windshield but I do know the new trim is not cut to fit. It will need to be custom fit to your car after the glass is installed. As for the glass I have heard some comments about them being slightly "off" but also remember that these cars were hand assembled and are not all exactly alike. If it looks like the glass fits to you ask the installer why he thought it was not the right one?
Hello GT4 FORE, I can confirm from personal experience that windscreen metal trim is supplied oversize for individual car fitting and that windscreen glass is subject to inferior copies that can lead to all sorts of problems.Kent High Performance Cars have their own glass manufactured to eliminate this . Unfortunately for you they are in the UK and I do not know if they would send to the US,might be worth contacting them as they are exceptionally helpful. Regards, Tom
Kewl - Thanks for the responses. So, since I will have to cut the metal trim, then that's not an issue. Here are some pics of the windshield test fit. You can see that both sides of the windshield rest against the metal trim clips, except for the top right side. Is this normal and will it cause the windshield to crack? -gt4fore Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Good luck, Tifosi1 went thriugh about 4 windshields before taking the car to Ferrari of Houston and getting one that fit, all were genuine Ferrari windshields, at the same time I ordered one for the 308 I owned at the time and the first one fit like a glove. It's just one of those Ferrari mysteries .

That windscreen appears to fit just fine. I think what may have happened is your glass guy showed up and realized what a major job this is to do right and was looking for an excuse to get out of doing it. he has to prime the edging of the glass first with that black coating, tape it all off, lay the sealant in, put the glass in straight, then add more of the sealant and the trim piece, which you already know has to also be trimmed to fit, and then use urethane to seal all around that, making a nice sharp line along the edges before it starts to harden (which, is pretty fast!)
Also, that car looks great! Is that Rossa Corsa? because in the longer distance shot it almost looks metallic and more of a rubino color. Stunning!
Thanks - Almost forgot what the car looked like since it was in the paint shop for almost 18 months. The color is ROSSO RUBINO MET. So - you think that the windshield sitting against the metal trim clips is ok? -gt4fore
I got a windshield from Ferr Parts as well and am having it installed this week. I'll post if any similar issues come up.
Jim, just to educate me, why would you think the glass is wrong? Is it the slight irregularity of the gap at the corner?
The irregular gap is no big deal, I can make it go away by lifting up on the lower left hand side of the windshield. However, the windshield still rests against the metal trip clips - this, I believe, over time, will cause the windshield to crack. -GT
ANY point load or binding of the glass vertically is a crack just waiting on a physical or thermal stress, to crack...... Maybe some field grinding would alleviate this? But most glass has to be worked before tempering, the way it was explained to me....
