Yep, should have put more miles on it and enjoyed it...probably would not have dropped the price much more, just the $ per mile figure..

It would also be interesting to extrapolate the true cost for the hapless new buyers, who purchased any late model Maserati, 2000 456, and or 2008 612 etc..., only to sell them as garage queens for a huge loss. One should also take into account maintainance costs and finance charges - if any.

Agree totally. Keeping any car as a garage queen isn't something I'll ever understand. One the the most valuable cars I own put on 3200 miles in 24 hours.

One of the internet sites, maybe edmunds.com or carsdirect.com, has a calculator that factors in depreciation, gas, insurance, maintenance, and opportunity cost of money OR finance charges. A pretty cool, but sobering, reminder of how much it really costs to own an exotic.

That being said....it seems like way too many people now are using those calculators (that don't necessarily need to) and letting the cost spoil their enjoyment of the vehicle. Exotic cars have always cost a fortune to own, but it just seems like everyone's making that the main point now because of the market.

What? You must have done an endurance race or something to average 133 mph for a full day.....if not then maybe we have a new NY-LA record?? Either way you are my hero. DETAILS!!

I wasn't driving that day. Mark and Bruce were. Since then I have however put over 30K miles on her.

The best way to go, if you want to save money, is to buy a fully depreciated exotic with few previous owners and service records. This would also be a car, that has been fully serviced by the p.o. or dealer.

Another option, is to buy a nice used air-cooled Porsche !

Some of the cars that the Penske Wynn dealership gets is from the Wynn family. Steve and his brother (Robert?) cycle through cars and dump them for the next newest thing. In which case it is understandable that they have cars with very very little mileage. I'd put more miles on them just for sheer enjoyment, but I don't think in their caliber, the depreciation hurts them any.

One of my race cars averaged $2500/hour for one horrible stretch of failures over 24 running hours, but that only works out to be about $25 per mile based on my average speed at the track I race at most often, so roadster owner still has me beat. LOL

Ouch! If I were to buy that car, I'd send him a mid-range bottle of wine and a thank you letter.

How many miles does the new p3/4 have on it?

I love that picture too. Which bridge is that?

A buddy of mine won't drive his Gallardo SL with 600 miles because he said 500 more and the car will go down $40k... but he also believes the car is currently valued in the high $200k's. Reality is the same car can be found on ebay for $100k+ less. How do I politely urge him to forget about resale, and to just enjoy it? He's 21 and it's his..

    Hi

That is the Tappan Zee Bridge. 0846 has less road mileage than my other Le Mans Cars as with it's mechanical FI it's a bit happier on a track. I have run the Historic Targa Florio in her twice and we're going to try to adjust the FI to make her more road friendly.

    Best

Show him Roy's web site and tell him life is short. Saving a hot car for the next owner by not driving her is like saving a hot babe for her next Boyfriend by not ******* her.

Fantastic! I've always been of the opinion that it's much more fun to drive them than to let them rot as a static display. If you want to do nothing more than gaze at a work of art, get a Picasso not a car. Give me a great sports car, an open road and 24 hours and I'll show you just how much I care about value depreciation. Roll on Jim!
