while not really a rolex fan, i fancied the new rolex deep sea sea-dweller (dipsy)....however, refrained from getting one for aforementioned reason....

then i stumbled upon the watch below. it's a customized rolex dipsy.

being a watchnit, i ordered one straight away with the following options:

    Rolex Deep Sea 11600 with:

    - DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) Blackened case

    - DLC blackened hands

    - Red Seconds hand

    - Red lume dot at 12:00

    - name engraved and enameled on caseback

Congrats on the watch! Did you buy this from the UK? There is a place there that is known for doing this.

Also, remember to take this to an independent place for service or ship back to the customizer as Rolex will not service it.

Anyway, enjoy it and be sure to post pics when it arrives.

    Best,
    dsd

Out of curiosity, do you order a custom dipsy from Rolex themselves, or does the "stock" dipsy go to a "tuner" for the conversion? Serioulsy. Also, what does something like this set you back above and beyond the "stock" watch? TIA.

No, the title of the thread is misleading. The watch being discussed is custom modified, not custom made.

for the sake of precision its modded.
yes, by a uk company called project-x www.projectxdesigns.com
rolex will service it...just not under warranty.

the options add about 30% to the basic price and they have the watches new in stock and modify them as per request.

Are you sure Rolex will service it as you think. When a modified watch is sent to Rolex they will swap out any unoriginal/modded parts for proper ones. Someone more in the know can answer this better (I could be mistaken).

Not only will Rolex not service the watch they will refuse it on the spot. If you really want a custom Rolex then you should have the standing to work directly with the factory on a one-off that they will do officially with the supporting documentation. I have been collecting for years, and as a matter of fact, the two Deepseas that I just purchased arrived at my office this morning and they are spectacular. For a purist and collector unofficially modifying a Rolex is as offensive as unofficially modifying a Ferrari. But I guess the world needs yahoos too!

well, i collect as well. and rolex is usually a 'no go' for me. but i liked the gizmo effect this watch has and therefore went for it.
if you compare it to modding a ferrari then i'd say that it would go as far as foiling the car :D

    the whole process is reversible.

modded as it is it will perfectly suit my APD Evolution rebreather. modded with a black case as well.

a rolex as they come i find to ordinary to be wearing.

as for servicing requirements.....almost any watchmaker has the tooling to open a rolex caseback and the know how to service it. not like it were some complication.....
furthermore it comes with a warranty from project-x who's owner seems to be a real stand up gentleman.

he is a vintage rolex dealer where you can source and service the comex sub's or newman daytona's.
