My new Superformance 16" wheels came yesterday, hope to get them on the car within the next week or so. May take a little longer to replace all of the suspension bushings that also showed up in the same box...
Fantastic - I will be interested to hear what tire selections you make and your impressions. I think with modern tech tires 225 at each corner will do nicely. Good luck!
Russ, I went with 245/50ZR-16 Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus. Probably going to have them mounted and balanced tomorrow. I do want to go through the suspension before I push them hard enough to provide comments. Cheers, Erik
Oh my god, what a difference. First impressions, the car is much quieter now, no annoying hum from crappy tires. Handling wise, I'm very pleased with the tire, sidewall is soft enough to soak up bumps from uneven pavement, grip is very good, but most importantly (to me at least), the feel is fantastic, its a very predicable feel in the corners that definately inspires confidence. Now the issue is that I can feel how worn out the rubber suspension is, but the hard rubber suspension bushings were in the other goodie bag that showed up from the UK last week... Congrats! Looks really nice! I'm interested to hear about how the bushing replacement goes since I'll be tackling that project in the near future as well.
Judge - congrats! I knew you would be happy. The Michelin Pilot Series are a quality piece matching well with the Mondial. The one thing all Mondial owners seem to agree on is the effect of newer tech tires transforming the car into something no less than spectacular. It looks beautiful as usual. I did see a thread where someone was having difficulty with the Superformance bushings - might be worth a look.
Wow, the price difference from "Elsewhere" is dramatic; $93.15 each for the fronts (8 required) and $57.77 each for the rear (16 required). That's $1669.52, without tax or shipping, just for the bushings? Something's funny here Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I'll let you know how it works out for me. The teardown will probably begin on Thursday, not sure if I'm going to start with the Mondial or the 308. Bought the Superformance parts for both. And I'm really not looking forward to going elsewhere for the 365 parts as Superformance doesn't have a kit for that car yet.
Oh, and before someone asks, the current license plate frames are off both V8s as the correct US spec OEM parts will be here on Monday when the UPS guy shows up. I still need to install my correct Italian spec front plate frame with an original plate...
Cool, I'll be looking for it. BTW, are you going to post the progress/results here or in the Experience with Superformance A-arm Bushes thread? Or maybe a new thread with a play by play?
Here's Rachel at Lantern Park in Dana Point, CA last year. We'll be there this year, 09 as well. It's an FCA event that all members should attend. Here's the deal - - it's a gathering of wonderful people, stunning Ferraris, great food, and a clothing model runway show that kicks A$$. (sneaky way of bumping up our Mondial thread and showing the "Berlinetta Shade", nes't pas? Cheers, Hank Image Unavailable, Please Login
Here are 2 pix of Sera from the recent Euro car show in St.Louis. ( I hadn't dressed her tires yet) Photos are by a local photographer. The mug in the car is me. Dave Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hey Dave, Sera is looking awesome - and the mug driving looks quite proud - and rightly so, as well ! Cheers, Hank
Hi Hank When was Rachel manufactured. I was wondering the several month period in 1992 that the Valeo transaxle option was installed in Mondials.
Hi Robbio, I'll check the exact date on the plate when I go to see Rachel tomorrow. She's getting a full front end "rock chip removal" respray. I like to say "she's in hair & makeup" It's a five year anniversary gift from me to her - & - back to me I'll post on Monday. BTW, the Matthias Urban book, lists six Valeo equipped Mondials with 1992 build dates - - out of about 24 in total. Cheers, Hank
That's interesting Hank. Was that 24 total Valeo count broken out into LHD and RHD as well as Coupe and Cabrio? Thx Rob
Hi robbio99, Regarding the build date of Rachel, 1992 Mondial t Valeo Cab., red/tan, #93123 ............ June of 1992. Also, I'll try to get hold of "Pom Mondial t" in Thailand, for his serial # so I can check the listing in the Matthias Urban book. Hank
Peter, here's a toast to you and your Mondial. Best wishes and get out and drive her as much as possible. Post some pix of your baby. Dave
