At high speed the rear view mirror in Dino Competizione vibrates. Any ideas to fix this elegantly?
Isn't that a period competition car feature? If it's not loose, my thoughts are either increasing the mass of the mirror, or an isolator. Perhaps some clay on the back of the mirror during events? Or perhaps a clip-on weight could be added on the exterior of the mirror, or weight inside the mirror somehow? Not sure of the mirror configuration (rear view or outside), or exact car... wasn't it yellow? If so, I'm sure you could find yellow clay for events. its not elegant, but i use a thin piece of clear Scotch tape to act as a shim, and it still allows movement of the mirror for minor vision corrections. place it on the center bearing surface of the ball and slide it back into the socket. a bit of graphite helps for stubborn ones. aint old cars fun!
Jim, Take a visit to your local archery shop or archery deparment in a sporting goods store. There will be a good selection of well engineered vibration dampeners available that provide amazing results. Many of them are quite small, unobtrusive, (round and flat black) and are applied with double sticky tape. (easily removable) I am assuming you are referring to your inside rear view mirror. Jon
BTW, it's usually a good idea to put vibration dampeners on in pairs, ie; one on each side of the rear of the mirror.
