As well as the team restructure, Ferrari will bring a host of new parts to this weekend's Chinese Grand Prix - including a revised front wing - which were evaluated by Marc Gene in straight-line testing last week.

i got this from the Ferrari re shuffle news on autosport.com

    Testing last week?

I guess "straight line testing" doesn't count (?).......

"stright line" testing is maybe a warped way to say wind tunnel testing?

I don't know, but on a side note I'm surprised we haven't seen more "in race" testing this year. You know if someone is down a few laps etc. Bring em in alter the car, to run testing. Obviously the changes would be limited due to the scrutineer regs, but why isn't done more?

I assume it means wind tunnel testing. Unless Ferrari has a secret underground racing track under the factory, which I really would not be too surprised if they did.

There is still a limited amount of straight line testing allowed.

shhh it's not at the factory, it's at Disney World. Do you really think those underground corridor's are used for moving people from one side of the park to the other? Well you'd be wrong they're for Ferrari's underground testing facility.

That "no testing" rule is doomed. Either three teams or seven teams are going to have to build, fit, and test new diffusers.

That, or we can write off this season as a demolition derby resulting from FIA senile dementia.

I was under the impression that the no-testing-rule covers testing at Grand Prix tracks, and therefore tracks like Fiorano and Mugello were fair game.

No way! That defeats the purpose of the no-testing ban.

Teams are allowed to conduct eight straight-line test sessions during period of 1st January until the end of the season.

    @Blue@Heart

It's coz teams are allowed only eight engines per season and they try about everything to save them as much as possible. If there's technical solution they need to test - they will do that on friday.

I suspect the testing ban is going to cause a surge in simulator development/spending that is likely going to take THAT technology to whole new levels. Should be interesting to watch and one where we may be the benefactors a few years from now. I suspect we're going to see complete, virtual testing so the track test is the last validation. I remember reading where McLaren has such a sophisticated sim that it is kept well under wraps.

That's why FIA wants to limit that, too.

Just got back from Italy and my cousin told me (amongst other things) no wind tunnel testing; he's next in line to join the Gestione Sportiva as an aero engineer once a position opens up; he has a buddy at Force India (which he tells me has 3 wind tunnels!?) who is basically doing nothing...

P.S. He estimates it will take a minimum of 80 hours in the wind tunnel to properly develop a new diffuser.

Intresting, thanks for sharing, I maintain a ban on testing is a mistake, how can any sort of developement take place when testing of new ideas cannot occur. Frankly, if teams want to spend money on testing then let them. Its like saying American must spend the same amount of money on infrastructure as a third world country..

He told me lots of stuff, most of which we already discuss here ad naseum on fchat. Here are some tidbits:

WCC means a lot to Ferrari; Kimi always says the car is good and provides little if any feedback; Force India has a ton of money and three windtunnels which are now useless; Ron Dennis goes crazy when he sees coffee cups on employees' desks and Ferrari has massive turnover in the F1 dept. due to the pressure. Lots of interesting non-F
    1 car related stuff also.

Is there anything that stops the teams from exchanging information with a private firm that could do testing for them...?

Who says that they are "testing" maybe they are just going out for a joy drive and just so happened to have installed some parts that just happen to be lying around the shop. :D
