I think you're getting some help, just not what you asked for. The message is that what you're asking for really won't help you, though you think it will.

First, the more you tell us, the harder it is to buy into your issues. I think you've talked yourself into a hole, most of which has to do with avoiding confrontation or deferring pain (with the girl, with your insurance, with your parents).

Second, more experienced folks have learned that loaning money is a very iffy proposition, no matter the sincerity of the intentions of the borrower. Consequently the only way realistic way to treat a request like this, is as a gift or donation, but not a loan. Now who would you GIVE $50, $100, $500 to? Probably not a guy you've never met, no matter how nice.

Come on.... that was a bit out of line.

You were honest so everyone is being cool and Id like to think giving you helpful advice (think about the lashing MOST people would get if they posted that). You may not be getting the reaction you hoped for (money pouring in) but that doesnt make the advice any less genuine or helpful.

Do what I do...what is the worst case scenario ? You make payments to her and she begrudgingly accepts them. Maybe you lose a friend in the process. Then that wasnt a very good friend.

See what your bank can do for you. I know one of the one's that I use has a "special" $1,000 loan for anything at a pretty low interest rate, it may not be the most ideal option, but its worth a check. Additionally, you said earlier in the thread that you have no job, if I were looking for someone to lend me money, I would probably lay out a plan for repayment, rather than just a simple "i will pay you back" in order to give them a little more reassurance. Additionally, you may want to edit your first post in order to put the whole situation in it. Rather than just saying "i need money quick" and then explaining it later on, again, this is something else that could increase the confidence in someone who might have the ability to help you......just my thoughts, good luck.

Yin, I've definitely been avoiding confrontation with my parents, no denying that. I just can't ask my parents for help. Only one person knows that situation, and I don't plan on telling it right here. I'm being completely honest here, so I don't think I've dug myself a hole. If anything, I'm avoiding going into that hole again. I want to get myself out of this situation and not deal with anything for a while.

Well, there must be some really nice people then loaning money to a person they do not know. Thanks to them, and a great saying (really liked that saying) they helped me some, no matter the amount.

I apologize if that was out of line.

I guess that is what I did except, that people would be understanding instead of me going to great lengths to keep my name in good shape.

I actually was hoping she would accept payments. I'm going to talk to her again tomorrow, and she what I can do instead of me "begging" like an idiot to people that don't know me.

I love how, in the future, I'm going to look back and laugh at myself for creating this thread.

Electronic garage sale! Come on, sell something. You must have something interesting that you could part with. Show us whatcha got. You're a Ferrari fan. Got any cool models?

Wanna work for it? I know a guy who needs help tearing down an old wooden house. Grab a hammer and meet me on Saturday (I'm getting enough wood to build a shed for helping him).

I dropped the class at the beginning of the semester since it's not recommended, since I changed my major once again. So biggest waste of $150, just like this fender bender. YAY.

You're pitiful, you don't even know how to beg like a professional!

Get a piece of cardboard and write on it "Vietnam vet with wife and 5 children. Out of work and need money to buy food for my family. Anything will help....GOD BLESS!"

Hang out at expressway off ramps with your sign and you'll make a fortune! Be sure to say "God Bless", it works every time.

<ahem> Well, that's not really my cup of tea, either.

There's got to be some product or service you can offer someone. You must have some skill that you can exploit to get some quick cash. That's gotta be better than asking strangers for money. I'm a plumber. I have a hair stylist friend who needed some plumbing done but had no cash. I worked 45 minutes in her house and got 5 haircuts. (yeah that all I got. She's married.)

If you're going that route, here are a coupe of things I have heard:

"My car ran out of gas". I heard this 3 times in the same place from the same guy. Gee whiz, dude, fix that damn gas gauge.

The Veteran angle. Come up with a real unit and story. I asked a "veteran" who he served with. He replied "Man, I'm a veteran of life."

Me too, but that "veteran of life" thing did crack me up. I really did hear both of those lines. The "ran out of gas guy" was in Waco. I used to stop at their Taco Bueno every time I passed through. I gave him a Taco and pocket change the first time I saw him. He looked at me like I was an ****** for not giving enough so I didn't give anything the next two times I saw him.
