    I am trying to arrange something here in Singapore with Mr Rattan. Would let you know how he is in person.
    He looks like a cool elderly chap.

    Yes sure, update me. And more for your information about his cars - He is the current owner of Jaguar and Land Rover :p (entire company). He was called upon specially by U.S Airforce to fly F-16 at Air Show in Bangalore. Now what to say about his cars ??????????
    And yes sometime by end of 2010 Ferrari and Maserati will be stepping into India in collaboration with Tata Industries.

    My parents were recently in Nepal and took these photographs of a bunch of crazy (and I mean that in the nicest possible way) Dutch guys driving a couple of 1933 vintage automobiles from Amsterdam to Beijing. Was wondering if anyone had seen these guys in India? I think this would be a wonderful trip. The only better trip I can think of is the Magic India Discovery trip.

    That's pretty cool. I would love to do a cross-country trip like that someday. Is that black truck a Unimog?

    Agup, agree 100%. On the black truck, it's not an MB Unimog. It appears to be a Land Rover (the badge is just visible). Not sure what model - before my time :).

    Thanks 360. I haven't been there yet, but my dad's raved about the people and the beauty of playing golf up in the mountains. Obviously the courses are not very forgiving - "there is no second cut, just a 500 foot drop!"

    I am also planning to do base camp probably this year - assuming we get it organised. Part of the bachelor party celebrations for a mountaineer friend of ours :) Obviously no KTV at 5600m, so the plan is to come back to the tropics for that.

    Well I've been to India many times, and my cousin is always telling me about an F430 in Amehdabad. Anyone have more information on this? And my cousin says that he has seen a Ford GT with Dubai plates in India, but I don't believe it unless someone can clarify.

    And one more thing, what part of Mumbai are most of the cars in?

    One of the reasons why exotic cars are still quite rare in India(than say China) is that of the huge import duties.
    Lamborghini,Porsche,RR,Bentley,BMW M,AMG are all available through official channels with full aftersales and spares support.JLR and ferrari-maserati excepted to come by next year.

    An example of some prices(taking $1=Rs 50 going rate for today)

    M3=$125,000
    M5=$210,000
    Bentley FS=$320,000
    SLK350=$120,000
    SL500=$300,000
    Boxster=$110,000
    911=$125,000(for base model) turbo 250,000+
    RR phantom=$750,000 drophead=$850,000
    Audi R8=$260,000
    LP560-4=$500,000 spyder costlier.
    Lp640=$660,000
    3
    Tata Nano( on road price with power steering and power windows)=$3800 !!!!

    No f430s in Ahmedabad.None have been spotted,so might be a visitor.No official GTs in India,again none spotted.
    Most of these cars are in south mumbai and central mumbai,the home of the film-stars and the industrial magnates.

    Two years back Autocar had placed a replica of Ford GT at an auto show, besides that no other case related to Ford GT has been brought to notice ..

    Nice pics ishan,

    The car is taken out very rarely,and often mistaken for a Testarossa.

    I doubt it, considering the roads are crap over there. Maybe in big cities....and if you think about, most of the people who can afford supercars like that have multiple residences around the world and would likely keep them away from India. I would at least.

    as a rough guide, it's FOB x 2 ... landed & on the road.

    compared to this, singapore is FOB x 3 on the road.
