Those lakes look stunning! Could you PM me some recommendations as to which ones to go to, it seems like it's really quiet out there and not too far from Ottawa.
I would love to head out there during the summer.

    Thanks!
    Walid.

    It does!

Last year we were covered in bruises from some rough water up on Erie!

Usually my knees are destroyed after a weekend of play!

    Its great pain though!

    Nope,

There have been several owners that raced the boat across the years. All in all it has won 4 championships. We are proud of her, last year was the first year out for us. Shes pumping out even more HP than when she won in Key west. We are very excited that summer is finally here again....

OK, none of my Southern California pals get too excited about a cruise over to Catalina in the near future because I sold this little beauty a couple years ago. Probably spent more time cruising Newport harbor than on the ocean anyway..........way too much time to cleanup after taking it to sea for the day.
Funny how everybody seems to disappear after you come into dock, geez, we're late for dinner or I've got a hot date, thanks dude, I'd stay and help you cleanup but I've got to get ready, man that fog really held us up, gotta go. Anybody else have this same experience? of course if you've got a big boat you hire someone to scrub it down, polish and cleanup afterwards.:D

Bob, I saw your boat moored in Avalon many times when I was a boy. I knew it was Stan Laurel's boat because my father told me that he used to see Stan Laurel on it when he was a boy. It was always inside the harbor, near the Casino. I assume the owner at the time owned a mooring there. John Wayne would anchor his boat, the Wild Goose, off of the Casino mole.

David- did you ever see a '70' Elco named PERLITA? Or more importantly, the tender to same, PERLITA TOO? A Riva Tritone, owned by film producer Roland Reed.....looking for pix from early days......

James, I don't remember the Perlita. That's quite a tender for Avalon. Not like you could tie it up at the dinghy dock. You'd need a tender for the tender.

    David,

Thanks for the message - great to hear that you saw the boat as a child! When you saw her harbored in Avalon she was owned by Jonah Jones, Jr from 1939-1978. Jonah was a very prominent Long Beach attorney who was actually one of Howard Hughes' attorneys for over 30 yrs. Jones was the mastermind in bringing the Spruce Goose to Long Beach. Hughes was on the boat quite a few times himself. As we know Hughes was quite an eclectic fellow and there is a story that he shot at some seagulls while on the Ida May moored at Avalon. This caused quite a stir to say the least with the beachcombers on Avalon. Hughes was politely asked never to return to Catalina again after this incident. This story was never released to the public as Jones convinced the mayor of Avalon (Mr. Bombard??) to keep this incident quiet. They agreed at that time that Hughes would not return to Catalina. Supposedly he did later.

Jones by the way was a member of the vernerable Catalina Tuna Club and purchased the boat from his friend and fellow Tuna Club member Stan Laurel (Laurel & Hardy). This is a story in itself but too long to describe.

    Best,

    Bob

Only one remaining of 4 single-engine Tritones; powered by a Scripps V12. The Scripps is a 'flathead' V12, displ: 898 cubic inches, 350 hp. Perlita Too was also unique as the owner added twin McCulloch superchargers in 1956.
Pic of the motor (sans blowers) & rebuilder, Jim McNeilly. Restoration will be completed next year......
