That car has a great history...was painted in infamous Gunston colours at one stage I think...driven by Paul Hawkins.

1967 LeMans 2nd OA, (lost the battle), 1st in Class(won the war)-Championship winner....so say the "all" of the records posted on the Internet...

How does Ferrari view cars that have had the engines changed, the body changed, and lord kows what else changed..yet is such a monstrously significant historical piece of Automotive Racing History?
Does it-the P/4-get it's "dog tags" on that note alone...
At what point are the 'rules' being bent, as opposed to being discarded(broken), in the name of personal valuation agendas?
It does not become any more clear-this issue of "authenticity and(gulp)"correct-ness"-than does this particular piece of Ferrari lore...

It would be and for a reasonable price I'm interested. Not sure that my idea of reasonable and the reserve on 0858 will be one and the same in this case...

RM is pulling out the big cars with this and 0714TR up for sale. The numbers could shatter previous top auction sales, and then Mecum is selling the Cobra coupe later in the month! May could set records or be a bust, we will all have to stay posted....

Tickled me how RM included photos of the #3 winning Monza P4 berlinetta - which was #0856. #0858 was the 2nd-placed #4 car.

That wondered me too! It's the old discussion concerning engine swap at Le Mans etc.
I.m.o. 0858 carried #4 at Monza 1967 but who am I to blow against the wind...

Werent the mod's made by Ferrari themselves, then that would probably be ok, as opposed to them being made by cousin vito down the road.

And could be looking at 10 mil. Euro, but why sell in a downturn ????

Nice to see that they've decalled it up accurately in the livery of Jonathan Williams' #27 Monterey GP Laguna Seca 8th placed car ....
(The other occasions where it raced in the '67 Can-Am series as #27 - at Las Vegas and Riverside the #27's were a bolder typeface)
.... pity though that the car still has the large external quick-release fuel filler caps fitted by Paul Hawkin's Team Gunston in 1968.

BTW .... Front and rear clips on #0858's bodywork are Fiberglass.

For those of you who haven't seen these photos of #0858 posted by David Moore in an earlier thread ....

Its amazing what a little bit of Turtle Wax will do to shine up a car. I still stand by my original statement, what a sexy beast!

Thanks for putting up that link.

    regards

As long as you use period authentic British Racing Green, you might have something good looking!

Beat me to it! How can a car with a SERIOUS Mechanic's Lien on it be rolled-out for auction? Walter Medlin can't be in tax-trouble again?
