'Should Ferrari write off 2009 and concentrate on 2010 ** spoiler**'.

'Kimi throws in towel for the season'

Sorry, but those titles are spoilers..

Well, the Kimi-towel thread is actually from a news story and predates the last race.

The "should Ferrari throw away 2009" is something that was discussed before the race too, although not in its own thread.

We do what we can and many thread titles are changed, w or w/o adding SPOILER to them. Basically, we're trying to avoid the "Congrats SUTIL for winning in Shanghai" thread titles, or "Brawns BOTH exploded on the grid".

I don't think it's any news to anyone in here that the boys in Red (and Silver) are not meeting pre-season expectations.

Tillman, I know, I was just kinda venting, when you see a thread that was started 3 weeks ago rise back to the top,
that's a pretty good indication on what happened (in China).

True. I'm not sure there is an answer to that.

I agree. If people don't want details of the race spoiled for them, then they shouldn't be in the "F1" section of this site.

I changed the first title trying to make it less obvious (Original title was not a question) and added spoiler. So you can blame me.

Honestly it is a difficult call because I did find the question/thread intriguing and it was on my own mind as well. If Ron hadn't started it, I would have started something similar myself.

Personally I'm not a big fan of the whole spoiler deal: If you don't want to know the result of a race, stay away from FChat (and the internet and TV and the telephone etcetc). That's what I do. When I tape a race, I don't go online until I have watched the tape.

The other issue is also how long do we have to keep results a secret? 12 hours at the most would be my answer.

Or to argue the other way round: Does the majority of the users have to be tippy toeing around some phenomenal drama that happened at the race just because a few folks stumble onto FChat before watching the recording?

I wasn't really complaining perse', just hoping to point out to folks that the titles themselves can give things away, flagged as spoiler or not, that's all.

Myself, I am beyond having to hide in a closet until I actually SEE the race, it really makes no difference, I mean, Vettel won, the Ferraris were awful, I know that going in, but I still watch the race to see what lead up to Vettel winning.

You don't need to tippy-toe around me.

    Duly noted. A known dilemma.

I visited Finland at the height of the Schumacher/Hakkinen duell and missed a race, which I taped back in the States. I remember walking through the streets of Helsinki on Monday morning covering my eyes every time I passed a newspaper stand. It actually worked. I flew home never hearing the result. :)

I'am glad you mentioned this 12 hours bit, sometimes in threads even ones started prior to the race, can tend to drag the results in to the discussion, after the race, the only real safe option IMO is to watch the race 1st and then come on F chat racing section to be sure of not seeing any results or clues I suppose.

It is possible to see thread titles without going into the F1 section. I was planning on watching the race today but I scrolled through the front page of Ferrarichat at different times and saw the thread titles that are the subject of this thread and figured that the outcome wasn't good.

I think that is what I was originally referring to, but I didn't say that.

As I keep saying, I am not concerned, I was thinking more of the other folks that don't want to know the outcome ahead of watching it.

I also think that folks (here) have learned - just stay off the web if it's that important to you.

On a different topic, I had no idea that Batman would trump the Joker - I was pissed I found that out before the movie... (sic)

I know it is.... that's why I hold a blank sheet of paper up to the screen when F-chat comes up. I block the view, and get where I need to go without seeing the F1 section or titles of threads, and I also avoid the General Discussion section (in case something real real big happened during the race).

It is very easy to do, with very little effort... and I can check-out 80% of F-chat with no problem.

I think the spoiler alert is crazy. Stay out of F1 section until you watch the race... and hold up a piece of paper when the main screen comes up if you want to search the other 80% of F-chat.

You can even go to the F1 section, find the main race thread for that day, and jump into the middle... without seeing any of the titles in the F1 section. If you take the trouble to hold-up a piece of paper in front of the screen, before you enter the section. I did it last race because of the boring start behind the pace car. I didn't watch it live, but I wanted to see what everyone else was saying about the race. Normally I'd just stay off F-chat until the race was over. (Rule #1 Don't trust others not to accidentally ruin your race, when all you need is a piece of paper to protect yourself) :)

Maybe it is because I grew up with F1 when death was not an unusual occurence: I expect somebody to die at any given GP. Not that I'm looking for it, but I wouldn't be surprised if it happened (in fact I'm surprised it hasn't happened more often). And that would mean that even in the US F1 would make mainstream headlines. That's in essence why I stay away from radio/TV/internet/phone until I have watched my tape.

Yes Ganton, I remember Gilles accident full-well, I was at a large gathering of family having dinner when it was on the TV on National news, I saw it out of the corner of my eye...
Can you even imagine the mortality rate today withou the safety designs of the tracks today, as well as some with the cars themselves ?

Ganton is actually a fictitious location in the game "Grand Theft Auto - San Andreas".

Yes, I remember it well when Prueller came on TV and announced the demise of Gilles. Along with the horrifying footage.

The only good thing about all the deaths in F1 is, that they did change rules and safety designs. Senna's ghost has saved many of today's drivers as well.
