Quattroporte body roll / handling

    The girlfriend's bimmer lease is ending next month and we (well I) have been considering getting a QP to replace her 550i.

    We borrowed a QP Executive (2007 / auto) this weekend to drive it and compare the experience to her current ride. Overall, great car but I was surprised at how much body roll it exhibited on a brief run through some mountain roads. It handles well enough (huge grip / balance for such a big car), but there is so much movement in the body it is disconcerting in the corners.

    I believe all of the 2007s have the skyhook suspension and I had the sport button pressed...so curious if this is similar to other people's experience? I was thinking perhaps I had gotten a bad example given how positive the reviews were. This is relative to a BMW 5-series with the sport pkg...

    It sounds like you should be looking at a Quattroporte Sport GT instead of the Executive trim.

    Even with the sport GT, the car will not handle as well ( unless you mode the car) as a 5 series with a sport package. The car was not designed to compete with a 5 it was designed to compete with a 7 series or a S class, cars with softer rides.

    That's what I was thinking but don't they both have the skyhook (ie same) adjustable suspension? I thought it was only the newest GT-S that had a truly different suspension.

    Can anyone more in the know verify? Thanks again...

    The 2008 GT-S came with fixed dampers and no Skyhook. It has a lower ride height and stiffer springs, antiroll bars etc...

    It handles better than all the uber-sedans and just as a good as an M5 if not better, due to the engine placement behind the front axle.

    The Executive is softer and has smaller rims, try a 2008 GT-S

    The 2007s all had Skyhook but that doesn't mean spring rates and/or the software was the same. If a 2007 is the year you prefer, you can always upgrade the suspension with new performance springs from this respected Maserati tuner...
