I don't think it matters. Any losses will be minimal and his name will be 'Mud' if he doesn't pay back.

Losses will be catastrophic to the next long time member that needs help. No one will believe the poor sod.

Giving him money is hurting more than it's helping (except in Mike's case where he actually got something in return). agup, you should have listened to their advice and gotten a job somewhere, instead of posting on Ferrarichat all day. And yeah, never borrow from family, that's a good way to destroy relationships.

I think that that is a GREAT idea.....

On a side note after reading this entire thread, my first thought was ABSOLUTE SHOCK that THIS thread was on THIS corner of the interwebs. Of all places, I would have NEVER thought I'd see anything like this here.

That being said however the thread reinforces two things: 1. Tenure here COUNTS, and 2. the amount that I personally have learned, about EVERYTHING, and the amount of experienced, responsible SUCCESSFUL people that are willing to share their knowledge and other resources to help us young guys here is AMAZING.

I only hope that one day I am able to "pay it forward"

    Thank you, honestly
    -David

I really can't believe what I have read. Agup, you seem like a nice kid and after all, you did get me a Fchat secret santa gift this year. :)

That being said, I have read numerous post from you on this and other threads where you mention how you have no cash, are short on money or are a poor college student. If you spend half as much time working or even looking for work as you do in the "last person to post wins" thread or "3 word story thread" or what ever other time wasters there are in the off topic section, you would never be short on cash. I worked all through out my college career, and to say that you are too busy is simply BS.

The FIRST thing you should have done is to sell the PS3 or anything you owned. Then find a job, then try insurance, then ask your parents, then panhandle, then become a male stripper, then sell crack and only then ask for help on FChat.

Who donated money to this anyway???

    Amazing...

Well? Still writing down things you learned? Com'on and pony up with your list!

Anyone else like to see that? If so, post and be counted!

Well, didn't know I had an assignment but here goes:
    1) Asking for help on the interwebs is bad.
    2) Choose other ways instead of asking for money online
    3) Ask for advice, instead of money...

Don't know what else to put...

355dreamer, hope you liked it. :)

No. He did the best thing possible and sold the PS3. Why belabor the issue?

If he chooses not to buy it back then it's between them.

Of course; no one likes to be scammed, though some might have been.

asking for help is fine. asking for a handout is bad.

this should have been lesson #1 :)

give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. teach him to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime.

I'm always amazed at both the collective wisdom of Fchat, and the willingness to share it. I think you benefited from both; even though you didn't get exactly what you wanted, I think you got something more valuable.

I was pretty happy to see Ash receive a helping hand from some of the members here.
Hopefully he will keep his word about returning the money promptly. Ball is in his court.

I agree that e-panhandling is about the lowest you can go, but sometimes there is no option.
It would have been rather difficult for a broke college kid to come up with $500 bucks on the spur of the moment.

Let's hope you learned (1) not to drive anyone else's car if you cant afford the deductible!! (2) Get some cash saved up incase something worse happens.

    ---
I got into a small fender bender when I was in my last semester at High School. I had a deductible of $1000; the little old lady had a couple of small scratches on her door and rear wheel. Her dealership took me to the cleaners, made me pay for replacement of the entire wheel, tire, door panel etc, since they knew I was not going through insurance. I had no choice as my insurance company would have dropped me or the impending hike in rates would have made it impossible to continue driving anyway.

I manned up and told my parents right away, even though I knew they would flip out. And did they ever... However, they also lent me the money and I worked my behind off everyday after class at a part time job to pay them back. In retrospect, they had more respect for me later on... It was also a bit gratifying to know that I dug myself out of my own hole (with a little help ofcourse).

If you can't rely on your family, who can you rely on?

Wow, I told my Dad, and I talked to the insurance company and they will be helping me out now (Accident Forgiveness FTW), I got the money back from her, so everyone that helped me out, I will be refunding your money as soon as it goes back into my PayPal account, I still cannot thank you enough. I will send you each a PM.

Huge weight lifted off my chest. I sensed something fishy going on when she told me she said going to need more money and the estimate was wrong, and was just like, **** it, talk to my insurance company. Let them deal with it. I just told her, no, I want my money back...

Another lesson learnt: Never drive anyone elses car. I'm sick of being Mr. Nice Guy.
Thank you guys who helped :)

WTH!?! I'm sorry, I'm just flabbergasted (one of those words that should be resurrected). After 12-13 pages, the solution that worked out best was what was noted multiple times on page 1 - go to your family and let insurance take care of it! I think you used up a lot of good will to no purpose.
