Yup. One and the same, Pete ....

As raced at Longford and Surfer's Paradise in early '68, by Bill Brown and Chris Amon, for David McKay's Scuderia Veloce. ;)

There's some photos online somewhere, if I can find the link. BRB ....

Failed. There were some small B&W ones here: http://www.oldracephotos.com

But the better colour images were linked from http://MotorsportArchive.com to another site www.LongfordRaces.com - now gone. :(

    :)

"Especially likes" I should have said.

Was her 350 Can Am body originally fiberglass?

I believe so, Jim. We discussed this before (and 0844's NART Can-Am bodywork), when looking at David Moore's photos. Remember ? ;)

I do remember and I realise it was in Dave's photo's but I don't remember what you though about when Ferrari raced it. As you know David occasionally made fiberglass bodies.

I think the World Wide Financial Crisis is taking care of that...

The other auctions were our Feds, RM is more motivated......

Although IIRC, the Feds got the money they were looking for.......:D

It's such a beauty... One of the true sports-car forms and here we have a chance to buy it... By "we" I mean a select few .

As far as I know the car only finished 3rd at LeMans in 67`... I may be wrong. But the race history is fantastic with this one.
1st. @ 1000-kilometre Trofeo Filippo Caracciolo in Monza, I think it was Jackie Stewart who earned Ferrari the world championship with the car at the British BOAC International 500 at Brands Hatch. And then the LeMans finish... There were some amazing drivers behind the wheel of this thing... It's seen some tarmac, that's for sure...

But, I believe Jim is right about the usability factor in this car. The Financial Crisis being what it is, I don't know how much somebody would want to track around in this thing and pay for proper maintenance long term. For instance, the owner drives it for a year... Well what now? Resale? I can't imagine the profiting off of the car, the price is considerably large for May.

What is the recent history with 0858 anyway?

Same owner the last 38 years. So, unless you were around when they were done racing this one, this is the first chance to buy it.

Certainly, RM can call it a P4 and we'll all call it a 350 Can Am.
I'd like to be clear about one thing- I think it would be asinine to try to take this car from 4.2 back to 4 liters. My remarks were strictly in jest. Of course, the ultimate disposition is completely at the hands of the new owner...

This is a great car and it's a real event to see it reach the market after all this time.
It would certainly seem that 0856 would be the first pick among those who wanted 'the most P4' of the three cars. After that, it becomes a philosophical debate about whether a buyer would prefer 0858 or 0860 (and why). I think there are good arguments for both cars. Obviously, these are the kinds of problems anyone would love to have- 'which P4 am I to buy...'

I think those of us in the peanut gallery owe a big thanks to WM, DC, and PB for having the good taste, foresight, and perseverance to shepherd these old champions into the modern light. It is to all of our benefit, as enthusiasts, that they all survive as very real, known, quantifiable cars that anyone would jump at having the chance to buy.

The Ferrari was timed down Conrod staight at Mt Panorama ,Bathurst at 181 MPH, back in the day when you carried your own spare wheel!!!! It was a time that stood until a Yamaha TZ750 race bike beat it by fractions 12 years later. Lap time by Bill Brown was 2.19.6. In 1968 Brown in the Can Am, and Dave Mackay in the 250 LM finished 1,2 at Lakeside raceway. They lapped within 1sec of each other at an average of 90.75 MPH.
I have read that 0858 and 0860 were rebuilt at Maranello in 1967 and cut down into Can-Am Group7 style, about 163 kg lighter. Most of the weight saving was made from a combination monocoque center section of the chassis and space frame extension for the engine, and fiberglass panels.
    Cheers MG

Interesting, I don't recall Mackay indicating that the Can Am won any races ... have to check his books. He loved the LM though, and when one thinks about it the Can Am didn't have the expected extra performance over the LM.

#6 is Jackie Stewart in 0860, not 0858, at the BOAC 6 Hours in 1967. #9 is Napolis' 0854.

Disagree about Walter. All he did was let her rot. I think you left perhaps the most important name off of your list.

    A good reason I suppose.

You could always buy them, and donate to charity... For instance I have a fantastic new donation center at my place!

Aside from the Cobra, are there any other notable cars that you know about going on the block then? Any GTO's we can expect to see in the near future? I ask you, becuase I'm sure you have your fingers on the pulse of everything automotive.

In reply to the question regarding 250 GTO's witness the banks reposessing Fritz Kroymans GTO last week. So maybe we will see #4757 on the market in some way over the next couple of months. I wouldnt imagine a bank would keep ownership for too long.

    IMHO
