I was at Limerock park this weekend for a track day and Skip Barber himself was there with his beautiful 250 SWB.
What a drop dead georgeous car with a nicely used patina.

Looks like the new body of s/n 2209GT...

 

Was is it sitting so high ? For a Comp car ?

 

Don't think so, but agree it is a reproduction body. Besides, this is an early style curved window frame car, isn't it? I don't have any pics of this car on my file.

 

I'm now 100 % sure it's 2209GT with the body shown at Maranello auction in 2007.

2209GT is certainly not a genuine car...

 

Wasn't this restored by Ferrari Classiche and auctioned at the Factory?

 

Do you think a car restored by Ferrari Classiche with a brand new body, new interior, probably a new engine etc can be called "genuine" ???

 

That is the question...

 

Well, when you have the chassis you own the real thing , that Ferrari Classisch attitude.
the rest can be made genuine by them.
Its a real tragedy.

For those that don't know this argument it goes. I own George Washington's axe, it has a replaced handle and head, but it was his axe. always a favorite of mine.

Back in George Washington's day, the notion that everything old is new again and, where the Classiche program is concerned, everything new is old again (do I detect "Back to the Future"?), had not yet been propounded. Now, wishing for originality only requires a wave of the Classiche magic wand (followed by the waving of large numbers of Euros), and your car's virginity is miraculously restored! Fred I am thinking along the same lines as you, and they didn't think of this years ago because it wasn't a money maker, but now that the cars are big $$$ it makes sense for them to get into this business..... I wonder what Enzo would think, on one hand he never cared for road cars and used them as a means to build race cars, but I almost think he would be laughing at this whole process IMO of course.

Re-manufactured or not, and by whom, first thing I thought was that this is one fine looking SWB. Then it occurred to me that was due to the grille surround still having the proper form, and it being the early budystyle with the somewhat smaller grille. Too many SWB have the lower part of the surround pushed upwards in the middle, which IMO has a very bad effect on the overall apearance of the car. When you see one that's 'right', the balance of the design is quite striking.

 

Along the latter part of the production run the headlight height seems to increase on these cars and the general shape of the grill becomes less oval and more squarish. "Skippy's" car (real or not) mimics the earlier alloy cars.
