SO I decided to get a Sig Sauer P229 SCT edition. It is one NICE pistol. Anyway, I am lucky enough to have a dealer with one in my city. It is the only P229 in the area and it is the exact version I want. So I fill out the background check paperwork and guess what. I GET DELAYED. WTF? The dealer told me to call back in 3 days if I dont hear from them. If they dont get a response by the Gov in 3 days, they will let me have the gun in 8 days. I dont get it. I've never been arrested or in any trouble. Why me?

Is there something/someone you really have to shoot this week?

BTW, love the 229. For me it had great weight/recoil balance.

Don't sweat it, it's just office paperwork taking time.

    Check this out:

Federal Bureau of Investigation NICS Web site:
    www.fbi.gov/hq/cjisd/nics/gunbuyer.htm

"complete arrest and/or judicial information are not always provided on the criminal history record which can result in delays and errors."

Several months ago I had to cancel a credit card because erroneous unauthorized charges showed up (only $20 worth). SO I contacted the bank and we canceled it immediately and they sent a new one. I wonder if that could have been enough to delay my acceptance. Maybe they are worrying about stolen identity.

Don't be mad. The dealer is holding the gun for you, right? Here in Palm Beach/Broward/Miami-Dade counties there is a mandatory FIVE day waiting period.

He's not talking about a waiting period, though. He's talking about a delayed response from NICS (the background check).

OK. Got the Sig AND a Glock 21SF today, both with specialized sights. The feds called the gun shop and told them it was a go. I may go back and also get a Glock 9mm. I'll try them out soon at the local firing rang. Thank you ALL for your help. I really appreciated it.

How are you liking the glock with the SF? I have been meaning to check them out. Are they noticeably smaller around the grip? I have small hands, so while I can shoot full size without problem, smaller would be a lot more comfortable better. I have been considering a 17sf or 17sfc. What sights did you get in you don't mind sharing?

i forget what the number is, but you will be flagged as a person of interest if you buy more than a certain number of handguns in a 30 day period. i forget what the number is, but BATF will contact the dealer and then yourself. its not a "big deal" just part of Big Brother watching. the cut off may be 4, but i thought i would warn you since you were worried about a delayed NICS check.

The SF is awesome. It feels SO much better in my hand than my 15 year old 21. Infact, I decided I would never use the old 21 so I traded it in. It is a GREAT gun. I Love it. The Sig is amazing as well. Let me look up the exact sights and I will post them. Give me an hour. I have to get to the office now..I'm late !

    A bit harsh, don't you think ?

I grabbed myself a Magnum Research Baby Eagle in .40 S&W. I was debating between that and the Walther P99. I love the .40 S&W because of the extra capacity vs. the .45. 9mm is just too damn small IMHO. Only problem now is finding ammo. I swear, I can't find ammo for my .40 or my .308 (H&K G3) anywhere. Everyone is backordered and they're all freaking out. Too bad my G3 destroys the brass when it ejects it or I'd have my father-in-law reload them for me. Damn battle rifles...

    Congrats on the new toys!!!
