How fast do you cruise in your Ferrari?

You know there is always that guy talking about the impossible. I just thought I would beat him to it.

 

I've been in a Carrera GT top off going 135. Fastest I've ever been.

 

Fastest I've cruised is the speed limit (85 in Texas) San An-El Paso so 90-95. All the other people around me were going faster.

 

Yes, I'm sure the police are right now checking internet sites for made up stories of speeding and then getting a warrant and subpeona to track you through your ISP so they can come to your house to write you a ticket for what? Internet BSing? Or a ticket for speeding by some unprovable amount on some unknown road at some unknown time?

 

I tend to go with the prevailing speed. Around here that can be anywhere from 10-25 mph above posted.
I've never taken my car over 150 on a public road.

 

The big problem is if you get in a wreck and the cops do an internet search and find you bragging about how fast you drive. They can then submit that as evidence of past behavior and kick your butt in the court of public opinion. They may also be able to kick your butt with it in another court. It has happened.

 

SOP for cops in your area to do internet searches as accident follow-ups?

Seriously though when living in South Africa I regularily cruised my Volvo 850turbo at 220-250kmh. Took a countach there to an indicated 175mph whatever it actualy may have been. Had a modded 91 vette there whith a racing 383 ran on avgas, took it to an indicated 186mph on the digital speedo which was probably reasonable accurate.

In the USa though high speed cruising is a no no.

Try a single seater on a track 130 is going to feel really really fast.

 

I got a serious dose of religion yesterday when my wife was nearly rear-ended and killed by an ********* in a Corvette who was driving over 100 MPH when he came over the crest of the hill, saw her, and had to drive into on coming traffic to avoid hitting her. Luckily, there was nobody in the other lane. A few days before that, my good friend's father was rear ended by a speeding teenager. His car was forced into another car. The driver of that car was killed and my friend's father is still in the hospital.

Preaching aside, surprisingly I have found Ferrari drivers to be among the most responsible, at least those I have met locally. I don't know exactly why that is. But as a group, we are not a bunch of *********s... like those lambo guys

 

Problem is that in the USA roads are crowded and there is usualy some fool thinking he is a great driver by weaving bumper to bumper at high speed. There is appropriate speed and there is dangerous speeding. On an open road where you can see for miles the danger is to yourself. At 8am in morning traffic speed ing is plain dangerous. Yet you are most likely to be stopped on a open road than a crowded one. Also any fool can hit the gas, doing so with correct perception and in real control is entirely another matter. Then there are issues like brain calibration for speed.

Said it before, the USA crap roads crap cars and crap drivers. Mostly here there is not the experience to be a good driver. If you go to the track then you realise how much more there is to controlling a vehicle at speed.

 

Yeah, and I heard there is a picnic cooler that can actually hit absolute zero.

I got pulled over for this, so I don't mind mentioning it here:

On the public roads, I got pulled over for going 120mph in my SLK... well, I don't know fast I was going, since I was (honestly) not paying attention, and there was no traffic ahead of me on the Parkway, on which the traffic lights were really spread out.

The officer who pulled me over informed me that he had to go 120mph just to catch up with me. I stopped at the next traffic light, not knowing that there was an officer behind me. And that's when I got pulled over.

of course, I have been a very careful and safe driver since then. I do take that route almost every day, and I am always driving a safe speed in the right lane. I may get in the left lane to pass, or to go with the flow of traffic if there are multiple cars in the left lane.

On the track, I've gone almost 140mph on a straight lane, but braked right after that.

I've read that the (R171) SLK can go 155mph, but I've seen a video online where someone did 160 mph on a straight.

I never exceed the posted speed limit, but one time I was doing ~350mph, I was in the passenger seat though, along with about 200 others who were on the same plane as me.

Seriously, going fast is only for the track, and in my experence of tracks, very few allow you to see more than 150mph for any more than a second or so. Take it to the track, less things to go wrong there.

Because of the tickets I've recieved in the last couple of years, I now accepted the fact that to speed on public roads is definately not in my own best interest. The trick is keeping up with what the speed limit is...not always an easy task, as it can be so low as to not make any sense what-so-ever. And this is where the cops love to hang out. but if it's 45 on a 10 lane interstate w/ no construction, that's what you'll find me trying to do.

AND I still NEVER drive faster than 120mph and ONLY for short stretches.



99% of my driving is at 80 mph. Just because you can ............. doesn't mean you SHOULD.

On the highways around San Diego, given the fantastic blinding speed of my red Ferrari I always go as fast as possible. And usually in a gear that maintains optimal torque and power for an instantaneous neck snapping burst of acceleration should my mighty Boxer be assaulted by some riced out Honda, in which case I’m fully prepared to defend my honor. For safeties sake, I constantly scan my 7 rear view mirrors and always have my forward and aft pointing radar detectors and jammers on full force to prevent some jealous highway patrolman from catching me unaware, and ,,,,,,,,

Yeah sure I do!

Actually I just go the flow because there’s no point in trying to go any faster. I always try to find a comfortable empty area between the clumps of cars, and just sit back and enjoy the ride.
