With the 355, I used to hear "corvette" all the time. With the CS, I actually heard "camaro" a couple of times, but less so than with the 355. With the F-50, I actually had a guy call it "the Batmobile." (Which made me feel really cool. I offered the guy a ride. He declined.) With the Barchetta, I usually just get "What is that?" from people.
Oh, one more. With my 911, I had a few "Volkswagons." Needless to say, I sold the Porsche pretty quickly. (And, Napolis--I NEVER had a Porsche jacket!)
My thought is that the majority of people have never even seen a Ferrari before, so when they do see one in their mind it never registers that it could be a Ferrari and they guess what it is using the nicest car they think it could be.
For the record I do have a Ferrari jacket but it was given to me by a guy who won Le Mans so maybe that's ok. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Nope not ok lol. Does it offend you all that I TOLD someone a 550 I was driving was a Corvette? lol. Blame me for the worlds mis-understanding of what what car is.
You can tell who's pretending to accidently mistake your car for another to insult and those who simply don't know. Acting offended and harshly correcting someone paying your car a compliment only makes Ferrari owners look like jerks.
My ex-wife used to say Porsches looked like VW bugs that got stepped on. Not bad, even considering the source. Dave
It actually happened several times as I recall...in the Atlanta area as well as once near our beach house in Florida...
People have asked me if the doors on my 355 open vertically. When I politely tell them "no, this is a Ferrari", they say "oh" and walk away disinterested like they thought they saw something special. It must really suck to own a Gallardo these days!!
My Daughter on the other hand (3 1/2 years old) calls every red car she sees a Ferrari with or with out the respective owner present! It's fun to see their expressions.
You forgot to add the 348 to the Testarossa group. Got one from a guy in a pickemup truck a few days ago coming home from Spring Thaw. At least he was cool about it! When people think my car is a Red Head, I take it as a compliment, and then think to myself that I am glad I don't have to pay for a major on a 12 cyl.
Don't see that at all. I think the 430 is one of the most beautiful cars on the road today. Admit I am biased, but I like it alot. Anybody else out there like the Corvette over the 430?
Yesterday, in the distance, I saw an on-coming black Corvette in traffic. For a sec, I actually thought it was a Ferrari!!! WTF.
From the outside, I have to say yes (the F430 interior looks much better). I think the Corvette definitely looks better than the 599:
This is a great thread. When my girlfriend and I first started dating she knew I loved cars, so we were driving down the street and a base C5 coupe, red, passed and she started freaking out trying to get my attention because she figured I would want to see the Ferrari... she hasn't confused the two since. Another story, which actually was more painful than funny, happened at a small car show around my town. It was just when the Ferrari 599's had come out, and a less-than-knowledgable woman came up to it and started looking around. She said, "What a car, it looks like you could press a button and NOS would come out." My jaw just dropped. Here is a brand new, few-hundred-thousand dollar Ferrari, and she's referencing The Fast and The Furious.
