Hello, I am ( or was) planning to purchase a 355 Berlinetta with a 6 speed (probably a 1995) and was hoping to track it quite a bit. An acquaintance of mine that has worked as a mechanic with several Ferrari Challenge teams recently told me to stay away from the F1 transmissions but he also said parts for the 6 speeds are impossible to find and I should not buy a 355 for track use without sourcing a spare working transmission first. Now I am rethinking my decision to buy a 355 for track use. I searched on this froum and others and don't see any parts or whole gear boxes for sale. I also didn't see any threads regarding problems with 6 speeds. Is this something I should be worried about? If I ruin a synchronizer or two will I be able to find spare parts for a rebuild? Thank you in advance to anyone that can enlighten me. Gregg
That sounds to me like you've answered your own question There are many serious 355 users here and you'd have expected significant problems would have caused at least one thread
The F355 6-speed transmission is relatively bullet-proof so long as it is properly cared for. Ricambi can find any part you may need. Worst case scenario - here's a 1995 F355 tranny on eBay - http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/FERRARI-355-6-SPEED-TRANSMISSION-1995-EXCELLENT_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ66Q3a4Q7c65Q3a3Q7c39Q3a1Q7c240Q3a1318Q7c301Q3a0Q7c293Q3a1Q7c294Q3a200QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem310112047186QQitemZ310112047186QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessoriesn I'm sure some real experts and Ferrari Techs will chime in here soon.
That was quick, a source for parts and a complete transmission for sale! I'm enlightened and back on board for a 355...Thanks saw! Gregg
