thats a very old dealer plate!!such a low number..our dealer plate number was 1884 back in the early 60's so that was.probably issued in the mid-late 50' although thats a black plate issued in 1963 and appears kept to date
I wonder if dealer plates are always issued in sequence - or if they reuse old numbers when they are surrendered. If you look at this website: http://www.plateshack.com/76/CA/california.html they have images of old California plates, including (about halfway down the page), some older dealer plates where the black plate actually has a higher number than the blue plate... Don't know the answer, just curious.
In BH today, a grey 300SL Gullwing, the yellow Drophead RR, red 575 Superamerica; then just 10 mins later on Sunset a 300SL Roadster (!!) followed closely by a metallic blue 365GTC/4 2+2. Santa Monica - red 355 spider with challenge grill and nice aftermarket wheels at the Promenade. Blue Bentley Arnage. Marina - black 430 spider tucked away on an alley in the alphabet streets. Blue w/silver blade R8 on Via Marina.
IIRC the dealer number issued was in sequence..i remember back in like 1989 Bob/Dale Estes had a blue dealer plate numbered 80 on their cars.Bob was a dealer since back in the late 40's...my dad started in 1959 and had 1884...when i worked with LT in the late 80's our dealer number was 20962....later in the late 90's my friends at icc were 30004..ive seen a 69--- number for a dealer issued last year so im pretty sure its the number of dealers issued plates since the start..
On Artesia Blvd there was a 360 spyder fully covered in Gumball 3000 decals and had a Nevada plate on it. I tried to give the driver a thumbs up but he didn't look. There was also a yellow 360 coupe parked along Ocean Ave, a little bit past the Santa Monica pier.

If it is the real plate its worth over 14 million dollars. "It is not huge compared to my family's fortune," Saeed Abdel Ghaffar Khouri said after bidding 52.2 million dirhams (14.2 million dollars) for an Abu Dhabi license plate bearing the single number "1". "The price is fair. After all, who among us does not want to be number one," Khouri told AFP.

It looks like LA is drawing in the wealthy arabs from Dubai and surrounding areas. It's about time since most of them usually vacation in London or the south of France during the summer. I think this might be the new trend and I am more than happy to have them and their cars here just as long as I don't see this... Image Unavailable, Please Login
I recall the back plate being the same. More from the past couple days...
