Hello everyone, I am very new to this forum. I have a 1987 Testarossa with 11000 miles on it and just recentley does not want to start due to a dead battery. After recharging the battery without disconnecting the posts, the car does start but only for 15-20 seconds and then the engine shuts off immediately. I was wondering if there are any fuses or relays to check regarding this problem, maybe the ECU has been damaged(due to charging without disconnecting battery)? Thank you for your help and consideration, I want to drive my baby again!

if the battery is bad no mater if you charge it will not hold the volts at least (12v) put a volt meter and see what volts you get from the battery or take the battery at any autoparts store and have them do a test on it.

Aside from the battery issue what you are describing is ignition ONLY when the key is in the "start" position and going dead when the key is in the "run" position. It's a common problem and can be found in numerous threads via the search function. I can't tell you exactly the nature of the problem off the top of my head but there are some simple tests you can do to verify that 12v is present at the correct terminals on the engine.

There should be no damage to the ECU but fuses and relays may be a problem

If you have a US version TR (F113A040 engine), this is a symptom of either:

    1) you've lost the ignition on the 7-12 bank, so the tachometric relay closes during starter motor cranking (key in Pos III), which closes the fuel pump relays, pressurizes the fuel system, and the engine starts -- but the tachometric relay opens once you release the key to Pos II, which opens the fuel pump relays, and the engine dies after the fuel pressure falls, or

    2) the tachometric relay is bad and is working OK in mode 1 (key in Pos III), but isn't working in mode 2 (key in Pos II and 7-12 bank ignition firing).

First thing to do is confirm/deny if you have ignition spark on the 7-12 bank during the brief running period. If you search on "TR tachometric relay" you should get some other prior threads on this subject (like this -- http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=240041). Give a shout if you need help (and please let us know how it works out).

    Ria, Spasso and Steve,
I am happy to report that my euro spec TR is alive and kicking again.
Thank you for pointing me in the right direction, because of one of the messages I found, I cleaned both distributors and rotors (much oxidation on contacts) and my baby came to life. I guess that's what happens when you don't drive often enough.
Thanks again, it's because of you guys and the valuable information that you provide that makes possible for a beginner like me to tackle problems like these.

Corrosion on the distributor caps and rotor contacts will not cause the problem that you experienced. It must be an intermittent fault that corrected itself. It will no doubt happen again. From the symptom that you described you need to take Steve's advice to fix the problem.
