Sad to see so many retirements on day1.Really 1 is virtually a no brainer...it,s a getting to know what you,re doing lap.To crash(compared to mechanical retirement)generally shows(with respect)you,re going for sheep stations. Each day gets harder in two ways:times tighten up gradually, the roads tighten gradually.
There is NO driving after dark ,TT92 had people including trying to do Longford in the dark including Black Jack.
Oh noes! Just looked through the retirements again to see who else had gone and our boys have joined the retired ranks. No more videos this Targa. Bad luck chaps. Hope its nothing serious!
unfortunately a burning alternator put goober out saw smoke on way to ge tcar, thought it was goobs setting fire to car , main thing was no harm to anyone but still disappointing
Thanks Moretts for the post. I said in a post to a member I hoped the retirement was mechanical failure. Targa don't seem to be stating the reason for retirement. Never mind next year. You guys gunna stay down there and spectate or head home?
I reckon I would put you two guys to shame! I swear A LOT!! Lol! Oh man!! Sorry to hear!! What a disappointment!! It certainly looked like it was going to be fun and we were ALL looking forward to seeing more videos and pics!
well we got the car back about 10pm last night , the car stopped at 2:30pm and Waz and I didn't find out until 4:30pm and then got mixed messages from the officials who said to come and get the crew and bring the trailer , and then the stage commander who said a recovery vehicle was on the way and we only needed to pick the guys up. So, after following the GPS instructions and driving all over the place to some no-Horse town called "Paradise" we come around a corner and see the red triangles out and the 360CH plus COLD crew in the middle of the road. Seems they are in a dead zone for mobile and no officials are with them and NO recovery truck !! We go into Sheffield and find the TT officials and they have no idea why the recovery truck ain't there !! More phone calls to the recovery number in the service crew book and get a Telstra messagebank message saying the number is invalid .... good one NOT!! So we call the stage commander and he is following the recovery truck up but says it was either cancelled or not coming so we get the recovery truck in Sheffirld to come out but by the time we get back to Goober/Simon we find they are loaded on a recovery truck and getting the straps put on and then a 30+ minute time follows by which time the Sheffield truck hasn't arrived and they were behind us .... what a comedy of errors We got back to the Silverdome lockup , drop the car off the flat top and go into town for dinner The boys are driving home today but I'm going to see if I can tag along with Beama's service guy to see the TT through otherwise I'll just hire a car and do some sight-seeing .... feel sorry for the guys after all the effort they put in but this was beyond their control and they we really enjoying the trip and stages. Goober reckons he is going to get a porker, gt3 or cup car, still, I saw the other Ferraris and Italian machines back at the lockup and they seemed fine so I think it is just the disappointment talking right now
ah no good.... sorry to hear. would have been great to complete. how many stages/days did you guys get in?
Too bad Goober. That's racing but very disappointing for you nonetheless RobboMCS posts here occasionally and is still in contention. Mini Cooper S (#923) Modern section. Go mate!
Most unfortunate; but that's Targa for you. It's hard on the cars and getting to the end of the 5 days is an achievement in itself. The alternator problem is a long standing one with racing 360's. I think Michelotto have a fix the days. Probably silly money
At least you had a bit of a taste guys and remember you've done well at Classic Adelaide. I'm sure you'll be back bigger and stronger next year. From what 360C said its common but fixable. Better than buying a Porker. Everyone seems to compete in one those or hair dryer. If you have any incar video of the 6 stages you completed, please post the links to Youtube.
a bit of sanity at last, except the cup car bit, unless it's not for a rally event. i bet the tow truck cost would of been huge.
moretti brought it up, so blame him to not finish targa for any reason is the worse kick in the guts you could imagine. all the prep, time and money spent to blow it on day 1, there are no words that describe the feeling. you can love the marque all you want, but if it's not going to last the full 6 days, then it's not worth driving.
This is probably a really dumb question, but since the alternator issue doesnt happen to Porsches, would it not make sense to fit a Porsche-spec alternator to the Ferrari, with the accompanying diodes/resistors/little black boxes?? Its not like the cars are scrutineered to the nth degree beforehand (i.e. its not a show car event)
it's not the alternator itself but the environment it is in, ie, placement and heat exposure I think you have to remember that a CH car does not have to power up windows, aircon, CD stackers, etc etc so the load "should" be less I went over the east coast routes today with Beama's service crew guy Larry and we did the Sideling and other stages after they opened them back up ...... goober got out lightly compared to some of the carnage we saw there with some heavily damaged cars. According to the event organiser they had 43 recovery events happen yesterday where cars were still getting back to base at 2am this morning !!
