I bought an Acer Aspire 5610z in July 2007, and now it has started giving me issues with my screen. If I move it, it goes off, and you have to tap the sides to get it back on. I have an feeling, it's a loose cable or another issue. I don't have a warranty for it anymore, anyone know what a the problem could be?
It works fine with just tapping the sides, so I don't want to give it "surgery" just yet. I'll wait till it dies.

Thanks. I've learned my lesson in laptops. $150 more could've upgraded me so much more, but I was going cheap, "recyclable", meaning I can go through laptops without caring about price, even though I use them till they die. I got lucky on my AC adapter. Called them 1 month and 2 days after the warranty was over, and apparently I still had a warranty, dunno how. Got a $50 ac adapter for 10 bucks so I felt happy about that.

Generally laptops have a cover above the Function keys that will pop off and allow access. If you look there may be little slots that look like a thin flat screwdriver can fit in. Removing this panel should give you the ability to see if the cable that goes from the motherboard to the screen has become loose or crimped.

What resolution and frequency is it set to?

    Check resolution:

On the windows desktop, right click and select Properties, then click on the Settings tab.

    Frequency:

Same as above but on the Settings tab click on the Advanced button and then the monitor tab. What is it set to?

Wow, yeah, it goes out as soon as I pull that open. It's really loose to pull, I don't even need a screwdriver to fit in.

Well, I have yet another question, the little tab, that turns the monitor off when the lid is closed, has gone under the laptop, although I can use the laptop, my computer now won't shut off when I close the lid, unless I go the old fashioned way of Start->Shut Down, instead of putting it to Sleep.

Is there any way I can take it out?

I have a feeling this laptop is going to die soon. I think I am going to go office space on it, take it to a field and go smash it :D, or open it up, and part it out.
