Driving on the weekend the car is running perfect, stop at a light go to take off and I heard a bang then loud popping sound and loss of power...(I peed my pants a little.lol.)

Pulled over open engine (fearing the worst) look couldn't find anything at first then notice that one of the plug wires was popped off???? I refit and re start, same thing except this time the plug wire and plug were blown out as well????

Call my mech he knew what the problem was he said that plugs heat up and cool down at different temp than the housing and some times they loosen off. He showed up with a new plug refit and voilà she ran perfect. But he noticed a slight ticking noise so we checked the rest of the plugs and 6 out of 8 were loose. We re tighten and no more ticking and runs perfect PHEW!

Has this happened to anyone else?

If you are using the specified plgs and tightened them to spec, eg. finger tight plus 3/4 turn, they will never "pop" off... If you had 6 of 8 loose, someone forgot to tighten them at the last service.

Glad the problem was a 10 minute fix at the cost of a wrench.

Good to hear it was an easy fix Roberto! :):)

Im with Marco, I reckon they were not tightened properly last service. :):)

Has never happened to me, or any of the cars I have owned. But, I have seen it many times before. The "backyard" mechanic usually replaces them and leaves them loose. :p:p

Not sure what happened in your case, but at least no harm was done. :):)

seems your mechanic new the problem quick smart. (im not so convinced about his reason to why it happened)
maybe he forgot to tighten them up last time.

What did he charge you for the 'service call'???

Maybe he has a retirement plan that no one else knows about!

That happened to me on my old F355.... basically they were left loose from the last service !! i crapped myself thinking ohhh noooooo...... what has gone wrong !! called the dealer and he immediately sent someone out and it was a quick fix !! Now I always ask them after a service if they have been tightened.

Wow, I think I may have needed heart medication after that!

Glad it was easy Roberto, I hope there was no damage to the thread in the head. I agree with everyone else here, I have never had this sort of thing happen in any of my cars, a correctly tightened spark plug will not come loose by its self in my experence.

Phew, glad it was an easy fix Roberto. I had a buddy that this happened to a couple times. Yes, a COUPLE! Turns out he did the work himself and used some sort of liquid wrench lube to get them off the first time and voila- they "got themselves off"!

    HA ha ha NICE..;)

He was gracious enough to do it for $100 instead of $200 but wants to do an engine out to make sure.

HA HA HA JUST KIDDING..:p of course he did it for free Mike he absolutely loves this car and says so to all the Lambo boys..:D

Yes I was so glad it was nothing major.

There was no thread damage but there was heart failure on my part lol. I know they have products for plugs to prevent this I have seen it so it must happen I just never heard of it on here in all my viewing nor has it ever happened to me with any of my vehicles.

Oh well we will log it as a first for the Brotherhood and something that should be included in routine maintenance checks.

    It's called a torque wrench :).

Nobody should tighten a plug in by guess and the supposed rough whatever extra of a turn ... use a torque wrench and set to the correct torque. 21 ft/lbs in an alloy head and 25 for a cast iron one is what my father always said to me.

+1 And re-checking during routine services is also a good idea, just to be sure. Only takes a couple minutes. 348 WSM shows 16 N-M for plug torque.

The 16N-M on page B-88 of the 348 WSM that I previously mentioned is just under 12ft-lbs. I would not feel comfortable at all with 21 ftlbs... that may be applicable to older plugs with larger threads.

Sorry yes I was talking older large plugs. As FandLcars says, use what the manual says :).

Same thing happened to me back in the UK with my 1992 348tb. Popped N0 7 cylinder HT lead off the plug. The plug was also loose! Crept home on 7 cylinders and discovered the issue once I got home to my garage.

Sounds like you have a good mechanic if he diagnosed it over the phone!
