I was reading the write up on the HGTE in the UK Sunday Times and it mentioned that the economy was improved by around 3.5MPG on 599's from some point in 2008 onwards, apparently changes were made to the engine to allow it to run leaner. There's no retro fit or campaign and my Dealer is looking to see whether mine has the earlier or later unit, I imagine it must be the earlier as if people have worse fuel economy than mine they must be calling OPEC to increase production before leaving the driveway :)

I do appreciate btw that fuel economy is a small thing to think about with such a great car :)

Anybody else heard about the change? of course it may not have affected US cars?

I have a Jan '09 build US 599 and I am sure there is no improvement in gas mileage.I haven't checked it but I would doubt it is in double figures! Don't think I will either-I love the car too much for any negative imput.

The decreased range on a tank is annoying, but you can make up for time lost easily.
If it gets better mileage, I'll lose my "Friends of OPEC" decoder ring. I got 9.5 once. Usually get 6.7-7.2. I grin a lot.

Very true and that is the reason why the HGTC is only compatible to the F1 Transmission and sadly not to stick shift :(
