It was tested in Spain in the most recent issue of Motorcyclist magazine. While they said it was the best BMW sports bike so far, they confirmed it is still not up to par compared with the Japanese liter I-4s...

Yea...but while it kinda has the great high tech looks of a Japanese sports bike, it still lacks the performance of one...

 

I'm not so sure. looking at the specs it should be right there with them.

 

You're wrong...The S1200RR makes 193 HP at the crank and hass more than any output than any other Japanese bike. Production wise, only the $75k Desmo RR makes more power. I highly doubt it will be anywhere near the back of the pack on race day.

 

I still can't believe they did the headlights like that. It would've looked so much better if they were the same.
But then again.. it would just look like another jap bike. Maybe i'll get used to it.

Other than that i think it is a gorgeous bike. Now let's how it rides

 

The fairing is also different from left to right as well, with a big opening on the left side and gills on the right side. I'm not too jazzed by anything on it except the swingarm is pretty cool. The puke green color has got to go. Why they wouldn't offer the racing white/red/blue is a mystery.

 

I've got my eye on this bike.. It may be my next one..... if they don't price them beyond reality!

Yep, I've heard that, but you just know dealers will add on a few thou for good measure, at least for the first few months...

lol sounds like you need a friend in the business ... time to lobby the bmw sales manager

 

I wouldn't be surprised if BMW squashes that idea to the dealers. This bike is for a different demographic than their typical buyer who is old enough to receive annual prostate exams. The younger crowd who will buy these won't tolerate that baloney and will go down to the Suzuki dealer for a new GSXR instead. This is the BMW for non-BMW buyers.

These are also a fashion-concious crowd even if they don't realize it. I had high hopes for the bike when I saw it in black carbon race trim over the winter, but after seeing it in production guise, I predict it will go down in flames.

 

Hope you're right about no price-gouging..

So, you aren't digging the style so much? I guess the weird, a-symmetrical headlights will take some getting used to, the rest, I likey!

The looks of a bike are not everything.

What counts, is the feeling when you ride the bike.

I am sure BMW will read the criticism, and a year or two down the road, will offer other colors - if that is important for you.

For years, it was for the most part with sport bikes, only Japanese bikes and Ducati. Yes, I also am aware of Aprilia and MV. With BMW, you now have a new option.

 

Has anybody talked to their local BMW dealer regarding approximate USA delivery date for the S1000RR? Web info indicates early 2010, but a guy here in Houston (at Eximports) is telling me September....

Just wondering what people around the US are hearing, or if they're even asking. I, for one, eagerly await this bike!
