some of us here are plane nuts, as opposed to plain nutz, so thought I'd start a flying thread the following pics are from a recent trip to Oakey museum, very poor by Smithsonian standards but hey, our air force was too big for a flying club but too small to be an air force Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login

was hoping the boomerang would have been flying at hack this year. it wasnt, neither was the mustang or Fiat G-59 that lives there. i used to get to see them fly every weekend from my old house, and would never cease to look up...
An aircraft & museum thread is a great Idea! To add some captions to Morettis pictures, in order: Fokker DR111 replica Wright or Bristol replica Bristol fighter, with Hispano engine RR Merlin or Griffon CAC Winjeel, Aussie designed & built trainer & FAC from the '50s Merlin or Griffon CAC Boomerang, a '40s stopgap built in Melbourne - didn't give many Zeros a fright but very effective as a ground attack aircraft in NG - tough, heavily armed and a good gun platform. Very popular with pilots and very few lost in combat, always a good sign. GAF Nomad - "a technically competent answer to a question nobody asked" classic example of why the military should not be involved in design/specification of aircraft, in Oz at least. Cessna 180 FAC, usually operated by the Army, many in private hands. Wright/Bristol again. My favourite museum in Oz is Temora - all the aircraft are flyable. and they have some great plans for new acquisitions - how about a flyable/joyride F4? My company does a bit of work for them, free or at cost - nice guys and David Lowy is a F car fan, having had several. Anybody want to buy a vintage Cessna 172?
got any photos Dave from Temora ? I've heard it is pretty good and some old RAAF guys go down there every now and then ..... I'll scan some old photos of F-111Cs in later when I get some time but I'm snowed under like PP
Great pics Morett.Saw the Boomerang at Woodstock about 17 years ago(flying)the Mustang turned up as well. Went to Oakey about 6 years ago....they,ve increased size/exibits since then? I reckon Temora would have to be one of the best...all flying/demonstrating.
P51 two seater is at Caboulture airfield, not cheap, $800 for a 10 min ride, but from what I have been told the best 10 minutes of your life!!!!!!!
