Easy to do, but the problem is the GTO's engine and gearbox were not engineered for that kind of power/torque over time. F40s, to some extent, have exactly the same problem with the block and gearbox as they are basically the same. I've seen numerous 288 heads with up to 14 cracks per cylinder head from using warmed up motors. I left my engine with the stock turbos, compression, etc. when I rebuilt it. I've had no trouble at track days keeping up with more modern machinery without having to warm anything up. If you want a faster GTO, just purchase a 430 Challenge car.

$529,000 US is a good number for this particular car.

I think the run-out is unavoidable on 288 GTO wheels!

    I agree.

You dont need more power in the GTO given its light weight...

We had a charity event at the Top Gear circuit where people were paying to be driven round - the owner didn't track his GTO but he did take out his F40 for most of the day

Did you ever hear about a 288 GTO, which was located in Germany, Hamburg.
    Plate was HH- EE 390.
    The owner was Mr Rohde.
He bought it new in 1985. I have pics of this car, which I need to scan and send on Fchat.

Sorry, no s/n, I was too young (13) when I saw it, I didn't look at s/n at this time...

    Wow, thanks for sharing!

Yes Im sure it is this car as I remember the small "D" sticker on the rear panel and the "HH" registration. For some reason I had thought this was a car owned by Hubert Hahne...

Mr Rohde was first owner, it is sure. May be he sold it after, I don't know.
This man had a BB512i, a 400i, and this GTO.
During 1,5 year, we lived not far from him, but we saw the GTO ... only one time !
The owner promissed us to make a road test, but unfortunately, we moved before he could take place ...

Here are various GTO, pic taken in Germany, Switzerland and France.

First and third pics were taken in Aix les Bains, France, during a Club Ferrari France track event. Pretty cool !!
The 2nd pic (car without mirrors) was not taken by me. I have no licence plate, no s/n. I only know it was taken in Montigny in Switzerland.
Fourth pic was taken in Geneva. Testarossa following a GTO, coming from Italy. GTO plate is 591133 CN.
Fifth pic was taken in Megève.
The all red (horse, front) is M-MM 6336, pic taken in 1985 in Hamburg.

    Thanks for sharing Denis!

I have to do a little research, but I would not be surprised if the mirror-less car is Walter Wolf who had a property in that area (and also had a penchant for either taking mirrors off his cars or replacing them - something to do about them ruining the 'lines'!)
