Ok... flame me if you want ... I have never seen this done before ... and I'm not sure how it would turn out...but.. I was thinking about adding red LED's to the engine compartment on my 360.... the bulbs wouldn't be visible .. just a slight red glow ..not too bright.. what do you guys think?... I'm not actually sure I'm gonna try it.. one part of me thinks it would be cool to see a red glow when parked at night .. the other part makes me think it will resemble something a kid would do to a civic.

You know, if it was done right, it might
look good. If not, . . people will let you
know right away. Like you said, a slight
    glow. Not bright.

    Good luck.

It's been done and posted on here before. If I can find it I'll put the link up, if not someone else will.

The key to a project like this is subtlety. The way you describe it leads me to think it will look good. Would love to see it lit up at night!

You may be forced to use red anyway as the laws in the US will not allow for white light on the rear of a car. So your red idea is probably the only plausable approach. Maybe running it up the engine bay lid where it's blacked out and vents.

That's what I was thinking... I purchased 6 1ft lengths of flexible led's .. they plug together... and attach with 3m tape.. but I'm not sure engine heat will keep them stuck... I will find a way .. and post pics If I do it.

It actually does look very neat.

I have pictures on my office computer I can post later.

I'll look up the led units as well.

I think white LEDs would look great. This way you could see the engine without any coloring. I would be concerned about red LEDs as it may look some things pink (which would be gay) like for example the aluminum frame (red+silver=pink?).

I say good idea, but stick with white...

LOL. I still want to see it, though.

JJSAUSTIN: I reiterate my earlier point; you CANNOT HAVE WHITE LITES visible from the back of the car. You WILL get pulled over. I'm sure the brightness or luminosity will probably determine this, but why bother.

Sounds like they thought that through. I can hear them now. "Every car will be stopped and written up for having tag lights".

    Slicing hairs, my man.

According to the Departmet of Public Safety you can't have any white lights other than your back-up lights and license lights in white (for the rear of the vehicle). Try driving around with your reverse lights on.

I think you'd be fine as long as you couldn't see the lights themselves, and they were dim (which they would be anyway). Hey, you can put any lights on your car you want. No one will prevent you, just be prepared for the inevitable stop.

I don't think you will see white light when you are behind the car, especially on a spider as the glass cover is flat. With LEDs shining down all you will get will be a soft glow reflecting off of the engine when you are look DOWN on it. From the side at any distance you will not see anything. Turn on a flashlight and shine it on a ceiling. From the side you do not see a column of light, only a spot on the ceiling. Once you look down onto the light you will see it. Same thing for the car except light will be shining down, so it will be indirect light.

You can't convince me to make my car engine look pink :)

Bottom line if the cop wants to be a prick he will. Most exotic cars owners will not put on a front plate, but how often do you get pulled over just for not having a front plate? If you get pulled over for speeding, all bets are off.

Guys, can't we just say it looks like crap or something??? Lets please remember we are all part of a community and some may or may not take offense to our use of certain words. Not a sermon just a thought! :)

Personally the word did not bug me, however, read the above. Thanks!

My gay friends, of which I have quite a few, would have gotten a good laugh out of it.

I am sorry you are so hypersensitive on the subject.

If you and the rest of the mods gave a **** about what was said around here on a daily basis about professional mechanics there might still be a few more here to help. But protecting gays really is important.

I see my flamboyant comments and pictures from last night have been edited out. I guess the job of a mod is never done, eh? :)

I'm sorry, but I still think the modification in question would look less than masculine.

I have a couple of very good friends who are gay. Doesn't bother me, even when they joke that I should switch from women to men lol. Yeah, no thanks.

As far as using the word gay on the forum to describe a modification, I tend to think grown men who have no problem walking down the middle of the street in SF in a thong shouting "we are here and we are queer" aren't going to have much of a problem with me using the term "gay" when it comes to describing LED's in the rear... of a car....

but I could be wrong. I'll respect whatever the mods decide. Even the gay* ones who delete my posts hehe :)

    :)

    Ray

    * gay as in in happy or jovial, of course.

I guess it is OK to call people queer though Ray. I mean I see it here regularly. My Gay friends all have great senses of humor and are my primary source of gay humor but is guess this place is far too PC.

Hey Ray, we both live in Northern California and we think this place is too PC. Whats that tell you?

    BTW, I'm feeling a little queer! ;)
