I love the craigslist ad, classic! Basically he's saying, "Hey, I love cool, unique autos and I want one even though I'm trying to get rid of this one..." Whenever I see someone on craigslist trying to trade, I know what they're trading is a piece of sh*t, otherwise they'd keep it!

OK guys, I hope you are done venting. I was not part of this forum when the car might have been first talked about in 2006. If it was a lemon it is not anymore. No defense here as all the facts have and will always be here on Ferrari Chat as you have been able to dig up my past posts. I am not attempting to pass off on a crap car. My intentions are honest. Mentions of oversprays, bad mechanical conditions, and crappy interiors were not an issue when I got the car as It looked nice when I bought it and I have improved it. The person who first viewed the car may have been overly critical because it was priced too high - I don't know. I have always offered the chance for someone to run a PPI. I have always offered the chance to see and drive the car. How risky is that? My car is not priced at the upper realm of 328's and really, that is just a starting point for someone to potentially get the car for less if they make a reasonable offer. I never said my seats were original to the car, just not redyed. They are pristine examples from a 15K mile car. With all my vehicles I am extremely anal about details (being an architect helps) and often buy items mostly from ebay that allow me to slowly improve all my car's worn parts. My original seats, which I sold, were very nice although too shiny for my taste as you know can happen from a re-dye. Fender bender? Yes, my black 328 which sold to a guy in Billings Montana whom knew about the damage at the time of sale. Please feel free to come and see the car and find any damage. If it had repairs in the past I am not aware of it and I can find no evidence myself. If it was damaged it was repaired very well indeed. The nose was repainted due to serious stone chips by the same people who fixed my black 328. They are excellent folks and you are welcome to speak with them. In any case, as anal as I am, it is just no match for the anal retentiveness I am sensing here from this forum. I have dealt with well over 50 vintage cars and a similar number of collector motorcycles over the years and each group has it's level of purists and nit-pickers none of which are so detail oriented as the Ferrari guys. There are some posts on the forum of DIY types fixing rust with bondo and fabricating or machining parts from scratch. Those are the guys I really relate too. I'm no marque expert but have had a 1978 308 GTS, a 1981 308 GTSi, a 1987 328 and my current silver 328 GTS. All cars which I kept for a max of 6-8 months each with the early 308 being the most fun since it had a Turbo and I had that for a year. Anyway, I'm not into any one brand of car for the long run but also don't go out and buy bad examples. I don't buy concours examples because I drive my cars to work everyday as daily drivers. So, I can promise that my car has a dusty engine bay and some brake dust on the rims but she is exactly as I represented her she will make the next owner proud as well. My ebay feedback is 100% having sold all my vehicles, bad pictures and all, proves there are some happy customers on some large ticket items out there. I often use craigslist to find other treasures and offering the chance in this bad economy to trade is far better than asking someone to come up with cash. I get to experience another car or get something in trade that I can sell in lieu of taking cash and everyone is happy. Especially me if I score a nice vintage bike or two. If the future buyer ends up here on the forum please don't give him crap until you actually see or hear about the car. She might have a bad history that I am VERY unaware of but she is a real champ now and a no regrets purchase for someone. My mechanics, while not a Ferrari dealership, work on Lamborghinis, Maseratis, Ferraris, and tons of exotics both new and old in the area and have really thought the car was in fine shape. She is not mint, just a nice daily driver that is VERY presentable with general patina that is to be expected from such a car. As I stated when I went to sell this car I was signing off the forum and really appreciated all the tips and advice and I'm sorry to have to leave with many thinking of me as the rip-off guy. So, Hasta-la-vista to the doubters and thanks to the kind help from the others on the forum.

    Fun thread! :D

Something that doesnt make sense though:
    - Original Poster wants to sell because he has an opportunity to buy a mortorcycle collection and needs cash.
    - Original Poster is willing to take cars in trade.

If the OP takes cars in trade, how will he have money to buy the motorcycle collection which is the supposed reason for the sale?

This reminds me of an SAT question ;) :D

    Regards,

    Art S.

    hmmmm....

Which is it? Super sleuth who got 80% of the records and spoke to prior owners, or... unknowing noob who may have been taken by a prior owner but did the fixes necessary to make the car whole.

Looking at the Carfax, this car was sold through an auction from the warehouse in Houston to SantaFe. Unless this car miraculously healed itself of overspray, leaks, damage history... doubtful.
My take on it is, SF bought the car ( probably in the $21k range). Not sure if he was aware of all of its issues ( a blind person could see from 20 feet away) but looking at his pictures of receipts ( and unless he tracked more receipts down from previous owners...doubtful) they are not complete. Why did he not posts pictures and amounts spent of current receipts to make the car "cherry"?
I think he did substitute another interior ( probably just seats and the infamous 6 bolt steering wheel) . A/C does not work ( he admits) and it is due to a lot more problems then needing to be (charged). If he had been more honest and simply said it needs some attention and backed off the economic ego jargon and had a realistic price ( $20K) there would have ben some positive interest on this forum and someone could have had a nice project car to work on.

But that is the very problem Dr. John...when I was looking for my 348 I found more POS cars than I would have ever believed. Everyone said that THEIR car was cherry, pristine, and a potential concours winner. Until I or a family member saw them. They had torn leather, overspray, rust bubbles, faded paint, wheels scraped to hell and back, BUT THEY WERE ALL PRISTINE. Yeah, whatever.

What I have come to realize is that owners of cars apparently have VERY different ideas of what "pristine" means, along with what a "major" is...

Will be interesting to see where this car turns up, won't it? Probably as a winner of a show sometime next week against Bullfighter's car - bwahahahahahahaha, sure.

Sorry Santacaferacer, but you went about this all wrong from the get-go...before you posted about how all of us must be crazy for not buying a silver 328 for sale that is basically a "looker", you should have approached the 328 guys at a minimum for some guidance. Live and learn man, live and learn.

This reminds me of when I was shpping for an E36 M3 some years ago. A guy had his car advertised as perfect. When I started pointing out things like the damaged lower spoiler, leaking power steering pump, etc. he got mad. Thought I was trying to "pull" something. I pointed out that HE said it was perfect when it obviously was not. That was the end of the conversation.
