Got this in an email. Don't know if it's coming here, but............

The Most Economic Car in the World will be on sale next year.

Better than Electric Car - 258 miles/gallon: IPO 2010 in Shanghai
This is a single seated car
From conception to production: 3 years and the company is headquartered in Hamburg , Germany ..
Will be selling for 4000 yuan, equivalent to US$600.
Gas tank capacity = 1.7 gallons
    Speed = 62 - 74.6 Miles/hour
    Fuel efficiency = 258 miles/gallon
Travel distance with a full tank = 404 miles

Anyone know any more about this?

    Seems fishy....

Electric car = infinite mpg as there is no "g"

    Isn't that a Volkswagen logo?

Looks like more than $600 worth of CF in that interior photo alone...

    1.7*258 = 438mi range

    Oh gawd... Complete bull!

It was a concept car from several years ago, those pics are from when Piech drove it to a stockholders meeting. It's called the VW 1L (one liter). There was some talk of producing it, but the cost would have been closer to $35-40,000.

The BS e-mail you got is making the rounds again, and has fooled a lot of green car sites into believing it's true, but it's just more internet BS.

Uh? This is far from being new. It's a 5 year (?) old concept car that needed 1 liter gas / 100km (-> see the numberplate!).

It would seem a concept like this would be the perfect kit car to get around crash standards. Source an efficient small diesel engine, gear it to the moon with a manual box, tandem seating for two, and boom...100 mpg.

I realize it isn't a production car, but I'd rock that if it were for sale. Small cars are just so appealing for city driving. Especially one that could go on the freeway and doesn't have the aerodynamics of a concave brick. (Smart)

The VW reminds me of the old English car Clarkson from Top Gear did a review on. The car had no reverse. The car was picked up by rear handles and turned around. Clarkson took the car up an elevator and drove it around the Top Gear offices.

Why, that would be the Peel P50 - smallest production car ever made, on the Isle
of Man in the UK. Retailed for around 150 Pounds from 63-64. But gas mileage was
NO WHERE NEAR the claims of this so-called VW. It got 83 US MPG tops.

If you've never seen the Clarkson episode for this one, you should!
