This link was great and really straight forward. I had bought my son a new computer recently and wanted to add my iTunes library on his computer. I have about 10K songs in my iTunes folder. Instead of using flash drives and burning tons of CD's--I followed these steps , but used an external HD I had laying around--Worked perfect---Step bt step process made it really easy for dummies like me...If anyone needs to do the same, I provided the link below...

Hey Robbie. All my music got erased from my itunes library on my computer...but all the songs are still on my ipod. I don't dare synch my ipod because I'll lose all my music. Is there a way to get my music off my ipod back into my itunes on my computer?

I consider you the ipod/itunes expert now. :D

Yes. The same happened to me once, it only works for music that you have bought from itunes and not songs that were illegal downloaded. So if you have downloaded any illegally then they will be gone and you would have to download them again from where ever. Open itunes up, click on store at the top of the screen where all the file, edit, view, controls, store, advanced, and help. Then click on authorise computer, now i'm sorry but i can't help you any more from there because it only lets you authorise a computer once and i've already done it so it won't let me do it again. But just follow the intructions from there and you should get all you music back :D.

    Good luck.

You didn't follow the directions----It says it will do that if you don't follow all steps exactly---Go back into the directions and see if there is a way to get them back on....

    Check out this program:
    http://www.wideanglesoftware.com/touchcopy/

I used something called ipodcopy from WideAngle software. I used it several times to copy the mp3s off my ipod. Worked great. Looks like they are maintaining the software nicely by the look of the web site. As usual, a quick qoogle search to see what people think of the software is warranted.

    I paid them their money.

A free way is to just shoow hidden files and folders and drag and drop the music folders from your ipod to your hard drive.
