*****Save the Date -- Registration details to come****** Somerset Hills Drive for the Kids A Country Roads Tour for Car Enthusiasts (not a race) Sunday May 31, 2009 (Rain date is June 7) Proceeds to benefit the Somerset Hills Learning Institute (SHLI -- a school for children with autism) Sponsored by The Stable in Gladstone, NJ. Event is open to Sports, Exotic and Collector Cars A leisurely two hour drive through the winding country roads of the Somerset Hills area in New Jersey (Somerset and Hunterdon counties) Drive will start at 10:30 at SHLI in Bedminster, NJ followed by a barbecue lunch at the Red Oak Grille in Basking Ridge, NJ Cost is $50 per person (includes lunch) This is a "Save the Date" announcement -- we will post registration details soon. Personal note -- My son J.P., who is 14, has autism and has attended SHLI for the past 9 years. The school has made an incredible difference in our lives as well as for the families of his fellow students. My 16 year-old daughter Samantha (with help from my wife and me) is organizing this event as her school service project. We would love to see as many of you as possible in the NY/NJ/Connecticut area come out for this first time event. Kirk Meighan
This event sounds great. My son Robbie (5 yrs old) has autism. My wife and I will be out to support the cause.. R
Would have loved to. Great cause. Unfortunately I'll be out of town (getting married that Saturday). Good luck with the run. J.
Some of the cars include : 1973 Ferrari Daytona 1961 Ferrari 250 SWB Berlinetta 1959 Alfa Romeo 2000 Touring Spider 2008 Alfa Romeo 8C 2006 Murcielago coupe More to come... Sponsor -- Maserati of North America has joined as a sponsor and will be providing items for the goody bags
Please note -- we have decided to limit the event to 50 cars or less so please register as soon as you can. Our thought is that, given that this is a first time event, and that my 16 year old daughter is organizing, we don't want it to get too unwieldy. We want people to have a good experience -- quality over quantity I guess.
Some additional interesting registrants: 1969 Lambo Miura (newly restored) 2005 Lambo Gallardo 1990 Ferrari 348 1963 Austin Mini 1964 Ford Mustang 2006 Corvette Z06 1997 Porsche 911 + many others
I saw that you had registered. Thanks. Look forward to meeting you and seeing your car. Should be a fun event -- a lot of very interesting cars and owners have signed up. Kirk
Not too late to register if you do it online. We'll let people register until Thursday night. Then we need to get a count for the restaurant for lunch.
Wow, this sounds great... and I'm local... too bad you picked the same weekend as the Dover race. -JRW
My nephew has autism..I will check my schedule Wed a.m. and then sign up. If I can come I will bring the Scuderia spider...maybe have a friend bring my 599...sorry the Enzo is in for repairs and will not be available. Is there anything I can do to help? Must push for research to find the reason and a CURE to autism...and it has got to be done SOON.
That would be great if you could come and bring those two cars. We have a good number of Ferrari's but not those two specific cars. Thanks for the offer of help. I think the best thing you could do is to join us on that day. Agree on your comments about autism. At least finally in the last few years, there is becoming more awareness about it so there is more focus. As you probably know, as late as the 1960's, the most common explanation for autism was that the mother had not nurtured the child well enough. How's that for a diagnosis -- your child has autism and it is your fault. We've come a long way from then but still have a long way to go to understand and cure this mysterious condition. I appreciate your interest and look forward to meeting you. Regards, Kirk
...and will register as soon as I sign off. It's a good cause, and I'll be happy to support the event.
Yes, please stop by. Ask for Kirk, Judi or Samantha Meighan -- we would welcome any donation. If I'm not inside the restaurant, I have a 1973 red/black Daytona so may be nearby.
Just signed up my 2008 599 red/tan and my 2009 Scuderia spider yellow/black for Sat....How many cars do you expect?
That's great. Thanks for signing up. We should be pretty close to our self-imposed limit of 50, give or take a few. I look forward to seeing you on Sunday.
THanks, just signed up. Great cause and you don't see many "leisurely" driving events, so hoping a few more vintage guys will be there as well (Art, Yale, Tom,...).
