I am thinking of parting with my beloved F355 GTS and moving to a 575M. I thought I'd test the waters and see if anyone was interested in a pretty rare find, a 1998 GTS with manual tranny in beautiful Rosso Barchetta. Since I have not been shopping the market for 355s lately, what could I expect this to bring in? Any serious inquiries are welcome to pm. Or pm if you have a lead on a nice 2003/2004 575 with F1 tranny. :)

    Miles?

Assuming between 20-25k miles I'd say around $58-60k given that it is due for belt

If all service was up to date I would say $62-64k.

I agree with above, but minus $6K for both. You will be the luckiest guy on the planet if you are even sniffing mid $50s for that car in this climate. A year ago, totally different story.

I just sold my immaculate 348TS with low miles and about mid way through the 30K service interval and I can tell you, it brought a solid $10K less than what it would have a year ago.

You would be right if the car was a spider or even a GTB, but GTS always fetches a premium. A year ago a GTS was a mid $70's car.

Nahhh. I almost bought one for $65K exactly a year ago with a fresh service in Springfield MO from AdamMark (f-chat member) I think it was. Mike (aka 8Snake) went and checked it all out for me. I didn't want to go $65. He had that thing a while, but I think it did eventually change hands at that price.

OK, so you raise a good point, Jerry. What's the bottom for say the 348? We won't see it until December 2009 or Jan/Feb 2010, but me thinks that edgy TS s are going to be in the high $20s. Premium examples high $30s, perhaps even mid $30s.

355s...not as familiar with that market, but I'm guessing they are going to settle in at around a $8-10K premium over a comparable 348, and that differential will shrink further 18 months from now, down to about a $5K difference and then it *should* stop there.

I've always said that history will look at the 355 as an upgraded 348, much like the 328 was an upgraded 308.

Three years ago when I said this, I was scorned. But the market is starting to bear that perception out. At that time, there was a solid $30K spread in favor of the 355. That spread is gone. It will always be there, but it's close to irrelevant now.

Don't sell it, prices will come back up in a major way. Even if all the gloom and doomers are right about further depreciation, this is the best sounding Ferrari and many think it's the best looking somewhat modern Ferrari, and a whole bunch of us think it's the most fun to drive. You have the "coolest" model by many accounts (I prefer the GTB), so hold onto it if you can.

Funny how a lot of the guys looking to buy say the prices will plummet even more...

Of course I'm no crystal ball so do what ya gotta do. And the car looks gorgeous BTW.

    +1 on that

I haven't been watching the market close because I'm not looking to buy or sell, but it seems like there are cheap ones on ebay at firesale prices - who knows if the owner just has to sell or if they really have problems. But prospective owners look at those the figure that's the going rate for a pristine well documented car. Then there's plenty of cars being offered in the $70-$90k range, presumably by owners who don't really want to part with them or who have recently done a 30k major and upgrades.

Bottom line I think there are some 'good' cheap ones out there, but after doing all the homework I bet very few of those cheap cars really are in top condition and freshly maintained. But by all means if you find one it's a deal!

Time for me to hop into the 360 forum to push CS prices down to $100k :D :D :D

Hey I'm not looking to buy; heck I just sold two weeks ago. I feel like I'm a reasonable opinion on the matter since I just took a $10K hickey on my 348. :(

29,000 miles. Carbon fiber center console is from MA Carbon.

Market is certainly soft but I think the GTS may call for a greater premium than the Spyder or GTB. Try and find one for sale, they don't come around too often:

33 F355 for sale on Ebay right now, NONE are GTS models
26 F355 for sale on FML, only 1 is a GTS

I think if you have a nice documented car a buyer isn't going to be able to comparison shop. It could be months before another comes up for sale.

I do love this car, but I am thinking of shrinking the garage. Just too many cars and not enough time to give them all proper mileage. I would exchange the 575M for this car and a 2004 Maserati CambioCorsa Coupe. The 575M seems like a nice compromise between GT cruiser and sports car, if there is such a thing.

In general I agree with your predictions. I think the majority of 348s will settle in the low $30s and the majority of 355s will settle in the mid to high $40s... a spread of $10-12k. I think the 355GTS will hold its value better than most and may bridge the gap with the 360. The volume of used 360s in the marketplace is a major problem for 348/355 prices. Most people see the 360 as a huge step forward and its worth the extra $20k to get into that car over a 355 (or 348). Especially younger people who are just starting to make a little cash. They see the 348/355 style as old. The 360 is THEIR car.

personally I am not a huge fan of the 360. I would rather have a 328/48/55. I like the wedge shapes better.

You are incorrect. Prices are not going to come back. Its a car not a collectible.

Im not a doom and gloomer. Im a pragmatist. My fondness for Ferrari is not going to blind me to simple laws of supply and demand. Fact is the days of easy money and credit are over...that seriously limits the number of people that can get into a Ferrari. Its not rocket science.

PS I also think this car is amazing...its EXACTLY what I want and if I wasnt in the middle of growing my business I would buy it for $55k in a heartbeat. Worth every penny and then some.

Very nice looking car, and I agree that a well documented service history on the car will make the price point easier to swallow for a potential buyer - "pay now or pay later", and by that I mean that if somebody can appreciate a well taken car of Ferrari then they will be willing to pay the the price for one....and as CopterJohn said yesterday "the cheapest Ferrari to buy will become the most expensive to maintain"

I think the car looks great and the miles don't bother me. The only thing that would make me uneasy is that fact that when I looked at your profile it said that you like to "track" your cars. As a possible first time ferrari buyer I would not want to purchase a car that has been tracked. Nothing against tracking, just my thoughts.

I have two full time race cars, a Porsche 911 and a Porsche Spec Boxster so I feed my track addiction with those cars. My street cars stay on the street because, to be honest, its not much fun tracking a street car when you have a purpose built race car as an option.

That said, I have run this car on the track for a total of about 25 minutes at about 7/10ths, just to understand its handling characteristics better. Certainly not going to hurt the car doing that, people do far worse on the highway.

I actually get comfort when buying from someone who has serious track experience. They tend to be 'real car people' and take care of their cars better as they understand what can happen if you don't. I put the F355 on the lift about twice a year just to check the underside, pull the wheels and inspect brakes, etc. I think few owners do that.

Did not mean to offend if that is how it came off. I was unaware of the fact that you tracked your other cars. It is a great looking car and I hope that you get what you are asking for it.
