    Hi Ape

Don't know if this is important to you, but thought that you might want to know...

I have a heat resistant windshield in my BMW 7 series and found that electronic gizmos (toll and garage transponders, radar detectors, etc) hardly work through it. I suspect that the 599's windshield will be the same.

    Best

This is why I love this site! The fact that you guys are so excited for me means a lot.

As far as the Bose HiFi, Im an Audio freak and ALWAYS replace the stock systems with the best after market system available.
I replaced the the system in my 430 and it wasn't really worth it. When the car was off or at idle it sounded amazing, but as
soon as I was off an running I would just turn it off and listen to the exhaust do it's thing. The fact that 490 Horses are charging right
in back of your head in that car doesn't help the sound in the cabin for audio listening pleasure.

With the 599 I will see how much I like it once I get it and then decide wether to upgrade or not. Obvioulsy, the 599 Is MUCH more conducive for achieving good sound being a front engine car. I will certainly get some tips from a couple of you about how to get the most out of the Bose system and if it's not doing it for me I will call Audio Illusions and have Kevin install whatever he thinks will blow me away.
For those of you in the So Cal area there is only one guy that I would ever use for the job..... He's Kevin Wright (Audio Illusions) and he is not only the nicest and most professional guy in the Car Audio bizz but he's just at another level than anyone else IMHO. He also does phenomenal Radar/Laser systems, etc. He's the first referral from both Beverly Hills Ferrari and The Auto Gallery and for good reason! A quick story about how good this guy really is......

I bought a 2007 Shelby GT500 when they first came out and had Kevin do the full treatment (Audio, NAV,Laser/Radar).......Galpin Auto Sports wanted to do the job since they did all the performance upgrades on the car (It had about 500 HP at the rear!!)......I respectfully declined and had Kevin do the job. When I brought the car to Galpin for a tweak in the suspension the guys went NUTS over Kevin's work. My main guy over there said "It's rare, but we got spanked by this guy"

As far as the Windshield option I ordered, it's a new option that supposedly lowers cabin heat by 30% on sunny days. The option was under $700 so I figured why not. I do live in L.A. and it's a Black car so it seemed like a no brainer.

    Thanks again guys!

Thanks Jon, It wont affect my car since the Radar system is hard wired and the detectors are on the front and rear of the car (very well hidden)....By the way, does the heat resistant windshield actually work?

My car is black with black interior - and I think that it helps a lot when the car is parked outside. With the heat resistant windshield, its almost as if the car were silver with a white interior!!!! Also, your dash will probably stay in better shape too.

Best and congratulations on the new car

    Ape,

Congratulations. Your car will be stunning. The heat resistant windshield is about the only option I didn't take on my 599 but with a nero/nero car like yours it may have been a smart thing that you did. I see you didn't got for the HGTE. May I ask why.

PS: It will be November before you know it :)

Matte Black Challenge rims? Sounds wicked. My 599 would be exactley the way you ordered it. I am partial to the ball-polished Challenge rims, but am interested to see what Matte Black will look like..

Thanks! I decided I would pass on the HGTE for a variety of reasons. I LOVE the way the standard car drives and my 599 will never see a track day. And 30K for the package seems like a lot of money to me (even on a 350K car)..........I just couldn't check off that HGTE box and justify it when it came down to it. I did just put 26K miles in two years on my recently sold 430 and Im ready for a GT.

A few guys that have driven both the standard and HGTE 599's basically told me that I wouldn't really get the benefit of the HGTE on public roads.
I believe they are right. I also prefer the standard 430 over the Scud for public roads.....I drove a Scud pretty hard recently and was completely blown away by the car, but I could NEVER drive it daily. My 599 will be my Daily Driver.

Now that I will have the ultimate DD, a Scud seems to make a LOT more sense as a second Ferrari.....hmmmmm????
Maybe I should get the Scud now??

(APE IS GETTING DIZZY......NEEDS A SHOT OF THORAZINE)........THINK IT THROUGH!

With two kids in college and one in a private school, two mortgages, an ex-wife, a new wife, and my Vintage Guitar habit I think I'll take the time I have with no Ferrari and live through you guys until November.

Congrats on the 599 - I think black is a perfect colour for it.

First, congrats on the new order.

Second, with 6 months to kill, you've got some beautiful trails near you in the Palisades. Sullivan comes to mind. Lots of great hikes or mountain biking to be had if you're not already doing so. :)

Third, a scud certainly seems like a better alternative to an HGTE package. Now that's justification! :)

Thanks buddy! Yep, I love it here in the Palisades. I actually live across the street from trail head to Topanga State park........The hiking trails are amazing up here. The only thing is that Rattle Snakes are everywhere once the weather heats up a bit. My buddy ran into one just last week.

I own several Pre-War Martins and a bunch 50's and 60's Fenders. One of my favorite guitars is a 56' Telecaster that's in MINT condition.....It's a museum piece but I play it all time!

Great area and proximity to the trailhead! Ah yes, snakes on trails. Had a few of those encounters. Some rattlesnakes and others non poisonous. You go this way and I'll go that way and we're good to go. The ones that lay right out in the middle for a little sun were missed by a few inches on downhill rides but they could've cared less. Not even a flinch.

Nice specs on the car btw. The yellow stitching should look really cool against the black. Are the daytonas all black or do you have different color inserts?

Congratulations, Ape...! I can only imagine how excited you must be. Hopefully time will fly. When you sat down with the salesman, manual transmission was definitely not an option, right...?

Did someone say matte black monolithic wheels...? Did you really order that...? If so, it's going to look sooooo cool.

November delivery....is that considered a 2010? My car got delivered last year, the week of Christmas and was still considered a 2008.

Thanks NNO! I really hope time will fly too. As far as a Manual transmission, I didn't even think to ask since I'm an F1 transmission fanatic.
I fell in love with it with my 430! Im not sure where the matte black wheels came from, Im getting the regular matte Challenge Wheels.
Although, I do agree that matte black would look really cool. I wish I could see an example of that....time to search.
    Is it November yet?????

    Was it a 599 or an F430...?

Ah, okay, I understand; you chose the regular wheels over the ball-polished look, and when you said 'matte' someone thought you meant 'matte black'. Either way, your car is going to look incredible. I haven't experience the F1 transmission in either the F430 or the 599, but it's supposed to be really awesome in the 599. Congratulations; November is right around the corner. :)

Teles rule. I have a lot of modern guitars, but I love the classics too. Got a few Suhr Teles (and Suhr Strats), if only I could send them back in time to myself when I played out every night. But I digress...

That 599 is going to be incredible. I just followed a red/tan 599 down the highway today, had to speed up and then idle it in my car so I could hear his engine, he punched it a bit and man it sounded good. The car always looks so incredible in person, pictures often can't do it justice. A black/black one will be off the hook.

For the Bose, I've had two cars with a Bose system. Unless it also comes bundled with iPod/etc., I'd skip it. In my Cayman, it is so bloated and bassy I have to put the bass on -5 to stand it. I should probably have someone yank the speakers and replace it, but in a car I don't care enough. Home system, now that's a different story.

In my 430 I left the stereo alone, and just enjoyed the engine, and had background music for when I was driving slow or with the windows up on a cold night. Same in the Gallardo.

P.S. Did I hear someone say Scuderia? Oh baby. Actually with the supercar market as it is, lots of choices for a used car to get you through the summer and sell when the 599 comes in!

I don't believe Ferrari does "model years" like US automakers. Instead, the model year is the year it was produced, unless they are trying to game the US regulations by selling it as a prior year model or something.

While I understand why the US companies do the "model year" thing, I find it to be a bit silly, and it's refreshing that Ferrari doesn't bother with it. It's kind of like the cover dates on magazines.

Ferrari does model years for US cars; it's required.
