OMG! It's a repost (do a search to find other photos of the fire) - But the original
post didn't indicate it was in Oregon!!

Very sad. I just hope the poor guy had comprehensive (checked today with my
State Farm agent to make sure my 328 is fully covered for fire - it is - of course,
you could replace my 328 for the cost of a set of tires and wheels for an F1!)

Where in Oregon was the fire?

Terrible shame. This is one of my all-time favorite cars.. I'm thankful that the owner obviously did not suffer any injuries ... it could've been a lot worse. I wonder if the hoses had dried up during storage ?

That value seems off. Last I saw one for sale was around 1 million.

Last October, RM Auction in London sold a 97 McLaren F1 for just over $4M including buyers premium.

Seeing that fireman in the back with the ax sure makes me cringe. He wasn't there to cut down a tree, that's for sure.

I follow a lot of the major car auctions around the world looking for cars that interest me. Results stick in my mind for a few of them. (wish I could remember more of them.....)

A car value in London does not compare to one in the US. But I will have to admit the last time I saw one for sale was about 2 years ago.

I think I might enjoy having that. Perhaps several of us could all get together and trade about 16 F-cars and Lambos for that one car. We could just be on rolling weekends. i choose the 3rd weekend of August.

ps: hey mansfield, this could be your new car for FALL 2009. You could bring it to Sunriver. after all, that 430 you have is "a used car now" and has that funny blue tape residue on the front body panels. Just an idea.

In my opinion, significant cars have more of a global market than a market tied to one country or another.

Having said that though, I'm definitely not suggesting that just because one was sold for $4M that ANY other one will ever sell for that figure. Auctions are very funny and finicky things. Many times I've seen a very poor example of something sell for much more than a great example of the same thing sells for in the next auction. It all depends on who shows up to bid that day and how the item is marketed and presented. Auction results are very much just a snapshot of the market for that specific item being sold, and only on that specific day.

Sad stuff. Didn't realize such a cool car existed in Oregon, or did.
