parking, etc

What are some of your better strategies for taking the high value cars out on the town. Parking? Valets? Hotels? Do you stay up all night watching?

 

Over here I can't even leave my 308 'in the street' overnight. Buy something modern that doesn't matter for these occasions, it's just not worth it.

Become crippled and get a handicapped tag - works great and the spaces are extra wide

Otherwise, get a car that isn't perfect so you can enjoy it.

Never let valets park it, but tip them to allow you to park it up front.

I usually park and put money in the meter, if a meter is required. Otherwise, I take the ticket and put it in my pocket. In the 365, I do try to avoid parking on too much of a grade, as the parking brake isn't the best.

Do I obsess over it or worry about it? Nope, that's why I have insurance.

 

When I was a lad and prices for a Daytona Spyder were in the $30K range, I bought one in Chicago and drove it back to Miami.. Stayed at a holiday Inn of the interstate in Atlanta, and as I recall I did not sleep a wink.

 

Maranello is the only town you can park a Ferrari on a city street and not need to worry.

 

I parked on Broadway in NY and had a meal in a nearby restaurant - no worries, no problems. In fact, I've never had a problem in NYC.

 

Buy insurance and enjoy your car...

Do you carry that cordon with you - having your own personal cordon is a great way to keep people a safe distance from the car. Does it fit in the trunk of P4/5?

Because, if it is too pretty, you will be worried about every rock chip, scratch or door ding - this is how garage queens are born!





Note the handicapped hang tag hanging from the mirror and wide space next to the car - handicapped parking reduces door dings . I'm not sure that it is worth becoming a cripple just to get better parking though

All makes sense. As for Jim G.--you are in a category of one--I followed you in the Lola on the way to Fairfield a couple of years ago. A P3/4 on the street--the best.

 

At first I parked on the side walk in front of the Restaurant. The Police kindly asked if I'd mind moving to the Bus Stop.

Fouquets moved over the velvet ropes but I didn't ask them too. That one parks where she wants to.

Jim, You need an electric force field to keep people away from those cars. In the law, they would be considered "an attractive nuisance," i.e., something dangerous that calls to us irresistibly! Fred

 

I always parked the GTO in red zones with an 'out of gas' note on the windshield. Worked 100% of the time.

 

found what should be the perfect spot, center of three handicap slots. still hit! how they have no idea. combo of two women and a cell phone is my answer. minor damage this time, three weeks at body shop, two redos.

 

I worked as a valet for 2 years here in Los Angeles during college. Mostly hired out to private parties here in Bev Hills, Bel Air and Encino. ( Early 80's ! Wow ) Anyway your best option is to give the valet doorman (manager) a real tip for keeping the car up front. They will look after the car and you should be able to see it as well. Dont allow them to park the car where you cant see it. The temptation for the attendant to take a little joy ride in that Daytona from Sunset and Alpine up to Mulholland drive and back if far too great to trust even the finest certified valet.
