I have been watching this build from my window at work and it is now taller than the Frost tower and still going up! At 680 feet tall, the Austonian, designed by Houston-based firm Ziegler Cooper Architects, will be the tallest building in Austin when its completed in 2010. http://archrecord.construction.com/news/daily/archives/090127austonian.asp Picture here:
Yesterday, a friend of mine was at the 360 Condo's building, currently Austin's Tallest Building, and he told me, the guy at 360 Condos said every room there is booked and all the other condos downtown are booked. Seems like the market isn't hurting any....
Really cool building. I thought the Frost building was the tallest in Downtown, I might be mistaken though. Austin is developing very quickly, for many years actually
Wishful thinking on his part. Lots of deals to be done at the Austonian and people looking to get out of their deposits is the word on the street. My GF just opened a boutique down on 2nd St. I'm hoping they get these projects done and full.
It's good to see down town Austin 'growing up.' I don't venture down town often but a few months ago when I went club hopping I was surprised to see all the high rise development. And yes, with todays market I can see a lot of people backing deals. The economy is ****ed and will take some time to fully recover. People are not spending money these days.
They built the 2727 kirby here in houston, it's a wonderful piece of architecture. They were almost 2 years late on their promised due date otherwise I would have bought my condo there when I was shopping around.They work slow, but they do deliver when in the end.
That's not even close to the truth. There are plenty of vacant condos downtown. One of my parking lots is right across the street from the Austonian, at 3rd & Congress. I've been watching the building go up for a while now. All of the contractors park in my lot and they have been telling me that they are having a lot of trouble selling the units. I'm not sure if they auctioned off all of the units at Brazos Place but they just had an auction because they were having so much trouble selling them.
The guy wasn't talking about all of Austin's condos... just the "360 Condo's" rooms. That's just what I was told.
