    isn't it obvious? JEALOUSY

btw, British cars are, at least in terms of years ago, some of the most unreliable POS cars ever made.

I disagree that it's jealousy. Like Bullfighter said, this is more likely a case of someone feeding on misinformation without any firsthand experience. The Dino gets compliments almost exclusively, meanwhile the Fiat 124 seems to attract at least one Fix It Again Tony quip each time I drive it. I doubt that many are jealous enough of a $4k Fiat to go out of their way to put it down.

Pulling out of the gas station I had a guy say, "Must be nice to drive a Ferrari" in a jeering tone and I thought WTF? What the hell does that mean?

I felt like driving over to him and explaining , "Yeah it's nice, I worked my ass off to get it too!"

I had a guy that looked a lot like walther mathau in his prius spontaneously give me the finger at a light...i wasn't doing anything.
    What a loser.

I like what Bullfighter said about guys think that if something breaks it is the end of the world...so true!
If I have to shell out a few lousy grand to fix something I don't even notice it.

^^^ therein lies the rub..... you "don't even notice it."

most people would and do notice anything beyond what they need to simply live every day; with you "shelling out" a "few lousy grand" and not noticing it --for an extremely expensive car that is practically useless = jealousy

Two things to explain this - Jealousy and Insecurity.

While I was stopped at a red light, I had a guy walk right up to my passenger window and say "Hey p-u-s-s-y, nice Fiero", of course referring to a Fiero-Kit-turned-into-Ferrari. I played along, and to piss him off even more I said "If this bugs you, how mad would you be if it was a real Ferrari". He was infuriated and walked away....and I emphasize "walk", because if you are going to lay an insult to someone else's vehicle, you better be driving a better one.

a while ago i drove by a group in their early 20's. One of them yelled out "that's a cool car, in 1985". only insult i have ever gotten in an italian. Guess he was expecting something a little newer.

I have the CF engine cover with glass over the engine. I just tell them to look in there if they have any doubts.

It's called Low Self-Esteem...He no longer feels like a little man, because he is smart enough to get under the skin of a Ferrari owner. Inside, he is chuckling at how clever he is. Now, he is significant, his car is the best, and you wish you were him.

I accept ! :) ;). And thirties is not past your prime! At least not in my opinion, but what do I know? I'm even younger than that girl!

A lot of this just seems like general lack of knowledge about Ferrari's. As for the people who do it to be complete jerks...well...I always think about how they are probably doing the same thing to others anyways. I just let it go. There is always one person who has to claim something as ridiculous. Sometimes even over the most trivial of things.

Not that I know of. The center piece on the TR unbolts at 4 places whereas the 308 hatch would be a bit more complicated I think.

That is pretty insulting, especially because uttered in Italian, but I guess they're all wise guys anyway and don't really mean 1/2 of what they say. So they meant the "cool car" part of the statement most likely.

One thing is for sure...My neighbor probably wants, maybe even just a little bit, to be more like me. And I have not the slightest desire to emulate any aspect of his life. Next time I talk to him, I will make him admit it ;-)

The ones who deride ferraris are the ones who realise they have neither the talent nor the work-ethic to buy and own one despite having an absolute desire for the car and the prestige they acknowledge ownership would mean.

Rather than work a bit harder and maybe make some sacrifices in their lives, they take the easy route. Try coming to England, there jealousy is a major pastime for people. I get fingers raised and rude comments all the time, but my answer is to wave, smiling, and letting them think I misunderstood their 'love of the car and me', should see their disappointed faces as they frantically try to make me understand that they are trying to be horrible!!!! Its priceless

As for greenies and PC-morons, I just rev harder rite in their faces given the opportunity. Funnily enough, last year I returned to my Jeep after shopping (I dont take the Fezzas there due to the old-timers and the dodgem mentality when it comes to the car park) and there was a bearded muppet putting a note on my windscreen. I pretended to be going to the car next to mine, and enquired of him about the note, which he took pleasure in showing me and it was the usual 'killing the planet, blah blah, children die blah blah' bull***t.

Then I, being 6'2 and 100kilos, showed him my Jeep keys, and made him put the note in his mouth and swallow it in front of his puny, pale ill-looking wife and kids......... GLORIOUS. And then when I pulled away, the best smoking tyres ever!!!!

offer to take him for a ride. Make sure to put a plastic cover (trashcan liner will do) on the seat before he gets in the car.

When he asks, calmy explain that without fail, almost everyone you've taken for a ride has wet their pants.

Tell him you're just trying to protect the leather...

haha - that TR w/CF glass deck pictured is mine.

Check w/Norwood Performance in TX and see if they have/or plan to make a CF glass engine cover for 308/328/348. IMO, they'd fly off the racks. EZ people to deal with - also bought F40 Brembos, 18" wheels and P-Zeros through Norwood.

No more "nice kit car" comments :)
