Just wondering if anyone has ever used a 360 for a daily driver. In terms of 2 aspects:

    a) practicality and cost: would it cost too much ($/mile)? is it practical?

    b) reliability: is this one of the infamous Ferraris that spend more time in the shop than on the road, or is it more reliable? How would it compare with a Porsche 911 in terms of mechanical reliability?

Let's just assume an average 8-10 yr old car with low miles. I know each car is different.

360 is a fine daily driver. As long as the car is in good repair, then you should have no problems. Just keep up on routine maintenance (oil/filter, gear box oil) and then 30K or 40K belt service. Should be fine. There are a number of 360's around with 50K plus miles on the clock.

As far as cost per mile, it depends. Most of the cost per mile comes in the form of depreciation due to people not wanting to buy "high" mileage cars. However, once you get beyond 20K miles, that starts to be less of an issue as the miles roll by.

Anyway, if you are worried about how much it costs per mile to drive your car, then Ferrari may not be for you. There will be costs and if something breaks, things are expensive. Services are $2K to $5K depending on what needs to be done. Tires are $1K. Just the exhaust system on my 360 set me back $7K or 8K as I recall. I think the headlights are something like $2K each. F1 pump can be $10K or more from what I have heard.

    Not a poor man's hobby :)

I think a 6 speed would be best for a daily driver.
I've never driven a F1, but i guess a 6 speed would also be easier to drive in slow traffic

My 360 was a manual 6 speed - great for day to day traffic, etc.

Most of the problems with the 360 I have seen were due to the car sitting and not being driven enough. Also not doing the annual fluid service. They are a well built car for durability. Better than a 911 of the last ten years. Yes, cost per mile is going to be higher than the average of other cars, but that is mainly due to the tedious complexity of working on any Ferrari. The F1 models have much more to fail, so unless you want the additional expense avoid them. Buy it, drive it, enjoy it.

I'm sorry but that's not even close to being true. There are literally thousands of 911's with 150,000+ miles on the them. I have never even heard of a 360 with over 75,000 miles on it.

Couldn't agree more. That is what I was told before I got mine (not a 360, but a 348). If you are getting into a Ferrari, the term "disposable income" certainly comes to mind. :)

No way is a Ferrari as dependable as a Porsche. I would drive my turbo everyday but not my 360. A dollar a mile for maintenance on a Ferrari is about correct while 25 cents a mile on a porsche.

There are a few, Brian (Rifledriver), a Ferrari mechanic services a car with 130,000 and a couple others well over 50,000. For the most part however you are right. There certainly are very few cars over 40,000. I happen to have 48,000 on mine, and Chas (Oengus) has over 50,000 on his Spider.

Just for fun last week I did an Autotrader search for 360's for sale, out of 217 cars listed, the highest mileage car was 38,000.

I am certainly not going to claim I know the number of Porsche's sold versus Ferrari's but Porsche compared to Ferrari is a mass produced car, and I am certain that there are many more Porsche's with over 100k on them than Ferrari's but then again there should be based on the volume of cars sold. I used both my 360's as DD's when there was not snow on the roads, or the roads were so cold my tires were like skates, I never had any problems, or did I have any problems (other than the Cayenne TT) with any of the Porsches I have owned.

Wow, are you 16? Maybe I should have said "grow up" instead of "suck it up".

Just because there are a bunch of 911's on ebay this week with over 100K miles, who cares? A 911 is practically a VW - of course people drive them into the ground. Even my accountant has a 911. Big deal. The point is that there are a number of 360's running around with over 50K on the clock. Just because they aren't listed on ebay, it doesn't mean your original statement:

"I'm sorry but that's not even close to being true. There are literally thousands of 911's with 150,000+ miles on the them. I have never even heard of a 360 with over 75,000 miles on it."

is true. It simply is not. And so that translates into you not knowing what you are talking about (as I mentioned in my original reply). Again, there, in fact, more than one owner (just on this forum alone) who have very high miles on their 360's. Just ask Brian Crall, he has a small local shop and has several owners who have high mileage on their cars. Given that he basically covers just Northern California and has several cars with miles north of 40K or 50K, I think it's reasonable to extrapolate that across the country there are plenty of 360's with high miles. Maybe they aren't for sale right now (probably because they are driven by their owners), but the fact is they are there. You coming on here and making a blanket statement "I have never even heard of a 360 with over 75,000 miles on it" just shows you are uninformed is all. It's not the end of the world, it just means your exposure and knowledge of the cars is limited. But hey, that's why there is Ferrarichat - welcome.

So let's recap: with your first post here, you were incorrect. No problem. With your second post, you then became rude. Hey, not the end of the world. With your 3rd post, you cite a bunch of random facts off ebay and still don't even bother to read this very thread where people have clearly indicated facts contrary to your original assertion. Okay, you are still new and haven't figured out the search function. Give it a try when you have a chance.

Can't wait to see your 4th post!

    Welcome aboard :)

also, please keep in mind, the 360 is only pushing between 5 and 8 years old here. Even the 99's are only just 10 years old. So unless you are driving the car full time as your daily driver (which most people don't, because they own multiple cars and/or because the 360 tends to be a weekend car), you would have to be driving 10K miles a year (every year) in order to get up into the 50K or 75K range in most cases. That's basically using the car as a commuter car for the last 5 or 10 years. How many people do you know who own Ferraris that pull 9-5 in rush hour traffic? Not many. In a 911 maybe yeah :)

Anyway, here's a thread were some people post their mileages:

    http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=205578

Again, given the fact that the 360 has only been around for a relatively limited number of years, I think the fact that the miles are as high as they are already speaks to the fact that these cars are driven.

In my case, my Infiniti from 2003 only has 33K miles on it, yet my 360 from 2001 had nearly 17K miles. And I work from home and rarely drive :) Plus, for the last 6 months, the R1 has been winning out over the 360 for short trips into town anyway. I think that speaks to the fact that the 360 is a great driver and has no problem handling the miles. Once the 360 has been around as long as your average Porsche, then you'll see miles up there more and more.

"""There are a number of 360's around with 50K plus miles on the clock. """"Better than a 911 of the last ten years."""

Making excuses for the lack of miles does not make a ferrari 360 more dependable than a porsche, "any porsche of the last ten years".

I stated facts to dispute your claim and your response was """well then you don't know what you are talking about...""" and you call me rude? You might want to do some self exploration, but I don't think you'll like what you find.

Then when you know you're wrong you throw additional insults as to my age. You're a real piece of work.

"""Anyway, here's a thread were some people post their mileages:
    http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/sho...d.php?t=205578"

4 pages of garage queen miles just proves my point, thanks for the link though.

"""How many people do you know who own Ferraris that pull 9-5 in rush hour traffic?"""

Isn't that the description of a daily driver? How many excuses are you going to use to defend your silly platform?

"""Even my accountant has a 911"""

Like I said, it reeks of a pompous arse in here. Once again a statement of fact.

ouch you guys are going at it hard, as a biased arbitrator let me settle it...yes you can drive any ferrari as a daily, but if they break it SUCKS...I have owned a 456, a 430, and currently drive a 599, all three were driven as often as possible ...I owned a 911 cab also and put 30k miles on it...the big difference between the 4 cars is this (service wise), when I roll into reeves they give me a nice mazda to drive around for a day or two, the parts are usually readily available and my bill never exceeded 5k...the ferrari service experience is a bit different; my 456 drowned that cost me about 60k (don't ask) took about a year to fix, my 430 had brackets that cracked all warranty work (took 3 months to get the right part)...my gas tap was left unscrewed and the check engine light came on with the 599, have been too busy to check her in

All in all ferraris are a pain in the a$$ they are PROBABLY not the most practical cars to drive daily, but damn it I try too

so if you're 16 or 60, have the privilege to drive it once or often, I say drive

and if you're 16 or 60 and don't have the money to service the car regularly or have the patience to deal with Italian craftsmanship take a pass

    I chose the first option

I was referring to the normally asperatied 911. The Turbo has a completely different engine block. A very well built car. The 993's have valve guide issues at low miles that cause check engine lights. The 996 has problems with rear crank seals leaking, countershaft failures and the "D chunck" cylinder wall failure. Not uncommon for an engine to be replaced at a 30k service. Not all 996's have these problems but some do. Both of these models have lots of plastic parts in the engine compartment that like to break when they get older. A 360 has a minimual amount of plastic attatched to the engine.

I have personally worked on a 360 that had over 120K miles on it. They are out there. Maybe you don't see that many for sale because the owners of these higher mileage cars love to drive them and keep them.
